Veteran observers are talking about a "second season" this summer for trout fishing. It's happened before. Back in 1949 for instance, when thousands of frustrated fishermen sat out the entire month of June while trout shivered under icebound high mountain lakes. That was the summer when streams weren't fishable until mid-July. But when the high country finally thawed out the screams cleared, fishing was hot! And that's what the summer of may be all about. Improving weather and access conditions have opened up new fishing opportunities statewide. Waters which have become accessible ac-cessible whithin the last week include in-clude Moon Lake on the South Slope of the Uintas, and Smith hatchery trucks have stocked both waters. At Deer Creek Reservoir, boat fishermen report fair to good success suc-cess on rainbows and an occasional brown trout. Warming weather should put yellow perch on the prowl soon. A new state record yellow perch was taken at the reservoir two weeks ago. Scofield Reservoir is the best kept secret in central Utah this week. Wasatch Front anglers who have made the longer drive through Duchesne and over the Indian Canyon Road have met with phenomenal success from boat and shore. Division of Wildlife Resources fisheries managers say they're not surprised, since the reservoir got a heavy stock of advanced ad-vanced fingerlings last fall. Those fish, now catchable sized, and some larger trout have made for some heavy stringers at the popular fishing spot. Happy anglers say the extra hour of driving time was well worth it. Although the '83 general fishing season is almost a month old now, experienced fishermen say it's really just beginning. And if this week's fighing report is an indication, in-dication, they're right.
