We are happy to report that (t was furnished by Mr. Morris Brereton and his son Gam from Edgemont. Many experts pronounced it one of the most perfect trees they had ever seen. We were delightfully surprised surpris-ed with a beautiful basket of snap dragons, presented by Tony and Revo Rohbock from the Orem Floral. It was a most appreciated ap-preciated Christmas gift and so many people enjoyed seeing these beautiful blooms during the Christmas holidays. While we "are extending thanks we would lute 10 remem ber to tell Mr. Giles and his State Road crew that we do appreciate ap-preciate the special effort they made to clear the state road last Sunday so as to make possible the parking of the many cars for the services Sunday evening. Mr. Bradshaw from Orem City also spent considerable time Sat urday afternoon, to clear the road north of the building for the convenience of us folks who park at Scera. Due to increased home responsibilities re-sponsibilities now that Merrill is back from the Navy, Ruth Blake Blair resigned from the Scera staff last week after three years of exceptional fine service as usher at the theatre. During this time her record has been almost perfect for attendance and punctuality. All we can say is that Merrill is a lucky fel low. The army releasing Merrill VINEYARD The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Harding was named Charlene and the daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hand- ley was named Carta Jean. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Holdaway was given the name of Jesse Harold at the Fast day services Sunday. The Youth Leadership group met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Allen, Wednesday evening eve-ning and plans were discussed for the years program. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Harren received re-ceived a telegram from then-son then-son Jerome who is stationed In Manila, that he expects to be home soon. . Mr. and Mrs. Roland Harding Hard-ing gave a family dinner at their home Saturday evening. The occasion being the birthday of Mrs. Harding, Sunday. Lovely gifts were presented her by her brothers and sisters and family members. Music and social chat was enjoyed following the dinner. din-ner. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Holdaway Holda-way had as their dinner guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bent-wet Bent-wet and daughters of Provo. Pvt. Delbert Mills left Salt Lake Saturday night for Greensboro, Greens-boro, N. C, after a two weeks' furlough here wit hhis grandparents, grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wells. Bob Sato has arrived at his base in St. Paul, Minn., following follow-ing a 20 day furlough here. Farley also necessitated the resignation of his wife Sylpha Johnson Farley who has been serving most efficiently as cashier cash-ier for the past six months. In as much as Merrill is attending the BYU they are moving to Provo. During the last month new staff members who have been added are Hattie Hall, June Allen, Lucile Camenlsh and Valene Nielsen. He: 'I'm keeping a record of all the good times we've had together." She: "Ah! Keeping a diary?" He: "No. Stubs in a check book." Baxter-McMHIen Reception Monday-Mr. Monday-Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Baxter entertained Monday evening In Pleasant Grove Second ward hall, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Lee McMillen (Jean Baxter), who were married in the Logan LDS temple January 2. In the receiving line Were Mr. and Mrs. Baxter, Mr. and Mrs. George McMillen, BUI Harris as best man and the groom and his lovely bride, gowned in a beautiful white satin gown, entrain with long net and lace veil. She carried a bouquet of roses. Coleen Baxter, Bax-ter, sister-in-law of the bride was matron of honor and Beth Baxter, Anna Rose Harris and Miss Peterson were bridesmaids, all wearing pastel frocks and carried bouquets. In the entertaining program Evan Wilberg acted as master of ceremonies during the evening eve-ning of dancing to Howard Nelson's Nel-son's orchestra-Verona orchestra-Verona Kirk and Florence Gray presided over the gift room and Arvilla Beck and Rosa Baxter were in charge of the refreshments. PLEASANT VIEW Mr. and Mrs. Garn Phillips had their baby named Wayne Garn, at fast meeting Sunday. Next Tuesday the Relief society so-ciety is putting on a quilt and all ladies are Invited to come with thimbles to help tew. Warnjck; piano solo, Maurine Williams, reading, Nina Stratton; poem written and read by Mrs. Ruth Peterson. Following the program the group were entertained with interesting in-teresting and unique progressive progres-sive games under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Nielsen of Pleasant View left Wednesday morning for Fort Douglas, where he will be inducted into service. EM-2C Russell H. Lunceford has received his honorable discharge dis-charge from Navy service frorrt Shoemaker, California. HOME AGAIN Pfc. James K. Jacobsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. O- Jacobsen has also been released through Fort Douglas. He has spent 13 months in New Guinea and the Philippines. T4 Ivan J. Leichty son of Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim A. Lre-chty Lre-chty of Pleasant View was also among the group released from Fort Douglas. t He was a member mem-ber of the 593rd amphibious engineers and spent 25 months in New Glinea, the Philippines and Japan. He was a student at BYU7 before entering service Sept. 22, 1942. Cpl. Clyde L. Wall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Angus L. Wall of PI. View, and husband of the former Sadie C. Christensen has received receiv-ed his honorable release from Fort Douglas. He has served with the 20th air force in Hawaii and Guam and was awarded the distinguished service medal. med-al. He has been in service since September 8, 1942. T5 John Watts, son of Bishop Bish-op and Mrs. Clayton Watts has received his honorable discharge after serving for three years in the Army Air Corps Engineers. He was in Italy for 21 months. Pfc. LeRoi D. Nuttall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon M. Nuttall of Lake View is at home after serving 18 months in England and Germany. He wears five battle stars and the distinguished distinguish-ed unit citation. Pfc. Ferron Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel S. Johnson, John-son, has received his honorable discharge after serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theater for 21 months with No. 1, the headquarters head-quarters unit of the 21st Fighter Fight-er squadron. First Sergeant Ferris L. Shaw, husband of the former Elaine Nielsen of Pleasant View, has received his honorable discharge from army service. He served 18 months overseas and wears the bronze star, the silver star, the croix de guerre and the distinguished dis-tinguished unit citation. BM 2C Albert M. Rowley, son of Mrs. Nellie Martineau of Provo and husband of the form-r form-r Lucy Prestwich of Orem, has been discharged from the navy and is home. He received his discharge at Shoemaker, Calif. Rowley served aboard a large LCI and has spent 21 months of his two years in the navy In the Pacific theater. He wears the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with two battle stars, the Philippines liberation ribbon with two stars and the victory ribbon. He left Shanghai to return home. He has two sons, Albert, Jr., and Vera. S O M 2C Frank R. Jex has returned to his ship, the D. E. "Amick" at Jacksonville, Fla., after spending 40 days here with his wife, Elsie Farraway Jex and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jex. He expects to receive re-ceive his discharge early in February. Feb-ruary. ENJOYS SHORT VISIT T. James Weaver, Y 3C, payed pay-ed a hurry-up visit to his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Weaver, when he arrived by plane on Thursday from Los Angeles, and left again Sunday evening by bus, to return to his ship. He will leave January 11 on a troop transport for the Philippines. This is the first visit the young man has had home in the past 18 months. Wayne Lewis of the merchant marines is spending a leave here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Lewis, of Pleasant View. Frank Tippetts of Pleasant View, has left for the Pacific coast, where he will receive re. assignment in the Navy, follow-ing follow-ing a 30 day leave here with his parents. BROTHERS MEET AFTER FOUR YEARS CpL E. Vance Calder, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Calder. arrived ar-rived home Monday for a 18 day furlough from Camp Hood, Texas, where he is stationed! This is the first time Cpl. Calder and his brother, Bob, have met in four years, and is certainly g happy reunion. Bob, was recently re-cently released from service and is now attending BYU.
