Roberts The godfather of physical education edu-cation and athletics at BYU, E. L. Timpanogos" Roberts, diea fast week. Just ten days before he was to present his famous sticks at the mass hike he initiated 42 years ago. Educator, coach administrator, author, historian, and poet, Mr. Roberts is credited with organizing organiz-ing the Timpanogos Hike nd the BYU Invitational Track and Field Meet the latter in 1911. While coaching at Brigham Young he produced such world champions as Alma Richards and Clinton Larsen. His basketball team in 1917 placed second in the National AAU finals at Chicago. Chi-cago. - At the time of his death Mr. Roberts was writing a history of physical education and athletics ath-letics at Brigham Young University. Univer-sity. . , , Physicians, listed his cause of death as a heart attack. ' I 30C0 to Hike Up 'Utah's Everest,'' Mt. Tiispunogos - " Utah's' world famous moun-ain moun-ain mighty Timpanogos will be the scene of another jnass mountains moun-tains climb Saturdsy when nearly near-ly 3,000 hikers of all ages strike out for the 12,000-ft summit. Climbers from all ovei the country will converge on the back side of Timpanogos the night be fore to watch the traditional pre-hike pre-hike program in the Theater of the Pines at Aspen Grovt. At 4 a. m. f the following morning the hikers will begin the 42nd Annual An-nual trek up "Utah's Everest" Last year more than 1200 hik ers legged their way to the topi of Timpanogos, where they could view the inspiring panorama of the Utah countryside. OHicials guiding this year's trek said an estimated 1,500 are expected to complete the annual climb. Sum mit badges will be awarded those reaching the top. Rangers working in the Timp vicinity said the trails were free of snow and in good hiking condition. con-dition. Roads leadings to Aspen Grove, they reported, are also ready for the onslaught.
