Thank you John and Joleen and all the crew from the American Legion for hosting the wash, and to all the ladies who helped me with the bikes and vehicles—Nonnie, Freedom, Shanna, Sandra, Toni, Leslie, Crystal, Cameron, and to Bricklee, whose mother and step dad (Huntsville residents Mike and Kelly Pace) were hit on their motorcycle in Huntsville. Again, thank you, all, and I will be glad to do it again to help. We are still accepting donations; just stop by the Old Town Barber Shop located at 5460 E. 2200 N. in Eden. Wendy Hammer, Old Town Barber Shop The Ogden Valley General Plan: Whose plan is it? If you were in attendance at the meeting in which the new Valley General Plan was discussed and passed, you may have felt completely blind sided by what clearly had already been decided by the politicians. With the exception of James Ebert, neither Commissioner Gibson nor Bell, had any problem with arbitrarily making a decision that overrode the recommendations in this document that will change the future of the valley forever. It became evident that you can bypass process if you have the right ACCESS. As we all know, DENSITY will be the enemy of Ogden Valley. You have only to look at the water problems of 2016, the lessening air quality year after year and the clogged roads, to know that when we add enough more people to make us a city the size of Bountiful, we will run out of water, clean air and open space. DENSITY was the most important thing to be addressed in the General Plan. Hundreds of thousands of dollars, thousands of comments, hundreds of hours on the part of the planning staff, planning commission, the consultants and private citizens yielded a consensus document which tried to eliminate the most egregious causes contributing to more density than now allowed. The most important of these was eliminating a “bonus density” (extra building lots) for subdivisions that cluster and eliminating wording that promoted the idea of a valley wide sewer and water (which would ultimately leave us with no argument for having 3 acre lots). And these are the very things that Gibson and Bell (aided quite blatantly by the real estate lobby) put back into the plan. The pro-development sob story we hear over and over again is that the valley has become too expensive for “our kids to live here.” This argument is most often given by people who actually have enough land around the valley to give each of their children a nice parcel. If so, then what could be their real motivation behind this desire to keep bonus density for development? Oh duh, silly me. I forget that money trumps all. In the words of one of our most engaged citizens, we were “ambushed and hijacked.” I want to express my HUGE respect and admiration for the work of the many brilliant minds who crafted a document we could really have used to shape our future. I felt humbled by their dedication and intellect. I want to thank Commissioner Ebert for being one to raise questions on our behalf. Citizens of the valley, we are not represented on this commission. It is time to call for, at the very least, a five member commission. Sharon Holmstrom, Eden While I Am Embarrassed by the Situation Voters Are Facing in the Next Election, Fortunately We Have Voting Options: Please Vote! In regards to Congressman Stewart’s editorial comments in the September 1 issue of The Ogden Valley News, as a former member of the Armed Forces, I was sworn to defend the constitution of the United States. As a grunt and lowly private, I was never given the option of choosing which articles in the constitution to defend. I was never allowed to interpret the document in a way that reflected my personal views. I accepted that the laws would be enforced in a fair and equitable way, in all situations, involving citizens of our great nation. I understood, as a young and naive soldier, that applying the laws in a fair way to all citizens was the foundation for our democracy. Clive Bundy has a supporter when he decides what laws he would like to follow and what laws he ignores. He has a supporter when he chooses to not pay his grazing fees to the U.S. Government. He has a supporter in congress when he takes up arms against people who have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States. He has a strong supporter in Chris Stewart when he ignores the Constitution LETTER TO EDITOR cont. on page 13 The Ogden Valley news PO BOX 130 EDEN UT 84310 If you would like your submitted items returned, please send a stamped, selfaddressed envelope.
