Amy Wicks Since 1998, I have been employed with the non-profit National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome as the Information and Research Specialist. In this position, I provide information and expert referrals to parents and professionals throughout the world. In 2004 he was elected as a State Representative for District 6. Kerry is an advocate for you. As a three-term State Representative in House District 6, Kerry has worked to preserve conservative, constitutionalbased governing principles in the legislature. He sponsored and passed several pieces of important legislation that have protected families, furthered the cause of developing efficient government, and preserved individual liberties. As the chair of the Natural Resources Appropriations committee, Kerry oversees the state’s budget for the department of Agriculture and Food, as well as water rights, water resources, wildlife, and SITLA, among others. He also serves on the Utah International Trade Commission and State Water Development Commission. 2006 and again in 2007, I was selected by my fellow Council members to serve as Vice Chair for the Council. I strongly believe that good, solid research should come before a public body reaches conclusions and approves actions, ensuring that all of the questions that need to be asked have been asked and answered with complete information provided before decisions are made. I have a strong reputation for fiscal responsibility, support of complete transparency in government, and a common-sense approach to issues facing our community, and would like to work to improve these aspects of government in Weber County. I decided to get involved in local government because it’s possible to make a positive impact to the everyday lives of the citizens of Weber County and help ensure that our community remains a vibrant and desirable place to live, work, conduct business, and raise a family. During my career, I have Gary Haws served in a variety of positions: patrol officer, undercover narcotics operative, SWAT Team member, SWAT Team Marksman, Firearms Instructor, Armorer, Field Training Officer, patrol Officer in Charge, and School Resource Officer. My career has been spent primarily “in the trenches,” so to speak, which gives me great insight into the inner-workings of a law enforcement agency. I’ve worked effectively with a wide variety of people in these positions. My interactions with the community have proven invaluable. I enjoy the relationships I’ve formed with the citizens I protect and serve. I have especially Terry Thompson – Republican I was born and raised in Roy, Utah, and graduated from Roy High School in 1980. I worked for Southern Pacific Railroad. While working for the railroad, I spent weeks away from home, returning home to Roy on weekends. To stay busy while away, I Terry Thompson successfully completed a two-year correspondence gun smith schooling course of study. In 1984, I married the former Natalie Weaver of Roy. Together our family has grown to include Preston and Madison, currently 21 years and 18 years of age. We moved in 1994 to the unincorporated county area north of Plain City. I have spent the last 15 years teaching and instructing citizens in various firearms use and deadly force training. Specifically, Utah State Concealed Carry Permit (CCP) course of instruction and NRA courses—Basic Pistol, and Personal Protection in the Home. Additionally, I instruct a Defensive Skills course of instruction designed for the CCP holder. I have enjoyed teaching many good folks interested in being prepared to protect themselves and their loved ones when danger knocks at the door. I have written several articles over the years, typically in support of our 2nd Amendment Freedoms, as they have continually come under attack. I have had articles printed in the Weber State University Signpost, Utah Peace Officer Association Magazine, The Law Enforcement Alliance of America Magazine, My Vision as sheriff ► Ensure responsible and effective use of taxpayer funds ► Strengthen city-county and school partnerships—we can do more together ► Develop a Leadership Academy to educate supervisors in leadership roles ► Transparency in government & communication with citizens ► A rigorous inmate community service program that saves taxpayer money ► Accountability—public employees must be held to a high standard ► Establish a joint Public/Law Enforcement Shooting Complex Kindergarten – 6TH GRADE OCTOBER 25 – 28 Contact Levi Woolsey for more informaiion at 801-745 0288. letters to the editor and guest commentaries in Utah newspapers. I am passionate about protecting our constitutional liberties and our amendments to the constitution as the inspired founding fathers of our great country intended. I am excited about the opportunity to be in a unique position as elected Sheriff, to have a wider circle of influence in the protection of our constitution and individual freedoms. I hope that each of us will do our part to preserve the freedoms that so many have given their lives for. I attended the Utah Law Enforcement Police Academy at Weber State College in 1988. While attending the academy, I completed one year of higher education at Weber State University. Subsequent to my academy graduation, I was hired by Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office in the Jail Division as a Corrections Deputy, working at the old Metro Jail in Salt Lake City. In 1989, I was successfully hired by Weber County Sheriff’s Office as an Enforcement Patrol Deputy and have remained with Weber County Sheriff’s Office for over two decades. I grew up in Roy; Weber County is my home, and I have loved serving my neighbors, friends, and community. Nearly three years ago Sheriff Brad Slater asked me to become a member of his Executive Command Staff as his Chief Deputy. Working closely with Sheriff Slater on a daily basis has been an immense privilege for me. I have learned to love and respect his steady leadership, wisdom, and knowledge of law enforcement and related issues. This opportunity to provide leadership at the highest level of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office has prepared me for taking on the responsibility of Weber County Sheriff. Working closely with “at-risk” youth has been insightful and incredibly rewarding. I’ve taught and interacted with thousands of the youth on a daily basis during the past 14 years. I feel I have been very successful in creating a positive image of law enforcement with these students. Although I thoroughly enjoy the work I do in Bountiful City, I am running for Weber County Sheriff because I am ready to put my skills and experience to work for the county I live in and have come to love. I have been approached by several people who have expressed to me that the Weber County Sheriff’s Office is ready for someone like me. They need someone who can improve moral within the Sheriff’s Office, promote relations between the Sheriff’s Office and city police departments, and unite the Sheriff’s Office with the community. Weber County will be a safe place for all citizens if all of these groups work together. I believe I am the person for the job. The status quo is no longer good enough for Weber County.
