Show Volume XVII Issue XI The Ogden Valley news Page September 1, 2009 Taste of Ogden Valley Weekend This year’s The Taste of Ogden Valley weekend will be held September 11 through September 13! It’s a weekendlong celebration of the unique food, music, art, and spectacular fall colors of Ogden Valley! Festivities will commence on Friday, September 11 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Huntsville Square, with music from local valley musicians, delectable barbecue from Texas Pride Barbecue, and fun for the whole family! On Saturday, Wolf Creek Utah Ski Resort hosts food, music, and more fun for the entire family! The day begins at 9:00 a.m. with the Farmers and Artist Market, which will move to this location for this week only. The food tasting booths will be open from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and visitors can try “tastings” from local area restaurants while perusing booths and listening to the sounds of local musicians. TASTE cont. on page 8 Farmers and Artists Market Wraps up the Season at Wolf Mountain The Farmers and Artists Market will be ending the season with a bang this year. The culminating Saturday will combine with this year’s annual Taste of the Ogden Valley, which will be held the weekend of September 11, 12, and 13. The Farmers and Artists Market will participate on September 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Wolf Mountain site in Eden. Come and enjoy fresh produce, baked items, and music; and, who knows, maybe you’ll meet an old friend or someone you’ve been meaning to call. This year’s market has been a great success, despite some adverse weather conditions; we took it all in stride! We had so many additions too— from the Old School Antiques and Collectibles, and Recycling “GO Green” to the weekly horse show, pony rides, and petting-animal area that included bunnies, chickens, and angora goats. Also, a kids’ area with a clown, magic shows, and balloons; and games, activities, and an art show with prizes and awards rounded out the complexion of the Saturday market. FARMERS cont. on page 10 Support Valley Elementary— Become a PTO member Being a member of Valley Elementary some great prizes. Drawings will be held PTO is fabulous! Make a difference in your child’s education. The month of September is the PTO membership drive. The cost to join is $5, and this year, because we are a PTO, 100% of membership fees will be used at our school. During the month of September, any new member will be entered in a drawing for prizes and gift certificates from local businesses. Join PTO and introduce a friend to PTO. If every PTO member gets one additional friend to join, we will meet this year’s goal of doubling our membership from previous years! The friend who referred them will also be entered in the drawing. Join PTO, refer a friend, and increase your odds at winning With the success of the annual Ogden Bluegrass & Acoustic Music Festival in June, Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music (OFOAM) felt one more outdoor bluegrass event was in order as summer wraps up. The Gibson Brothers are a strong band that has carved out a niche in the bluegrass business. Though not old, Eric and Leigh, still in their 30’s, have toughed it out and hung in there, and feel like bluegrass lifers. Since capturing the IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year Award in 1998, the duo has been the recipient of many laurels and praises, for both their performances and recordings. Growing up in a small farming community in the Champlain Valley region of New York, they site such influences as Emmylou Harris, Buck Owens, Louvin Brothers, The Band, Tony Rice, Seldom Scene, Tim O’Brien, and Merle Haggard. Eric Gibson (vocals and banjo) and Leigh Gibson (vocals and guitar) are joined by Mike Barber (upright bass), Clayton Campbell (fiddle), and Joe Walsh (mandolin). They recently released their ninth album, “Ring the Bell,” their first with the Compass Records label.
