The Cape Letters to the Editor (Letters cont. on page 3) Independence Day Celebration Rescheduled for Pioneer Day The Things that Make Life Special—One boring valley, a lot of great people, and a few small miracles health class during their annual road cleanup project and had found my check. Sgt. Hadley delivered it to my doorstep about 30 minutes later. It was in pretty bad shape because of the weekend’s torrential rain storms, but it was still negotiable. It also turns out that Ryon Hadley and I had gone to high school together. He told me that he had been working the Valley for almost 28 years, watching out for, and keeping the peace for us Valley “hoodlums.” It is a small world but I don’t believe in coincidences. There is a greater power that makes things happen, one little, small miracle at a time Ani he way, I surely love my boring life here in i the “Garden of Eden.” It’s the little snippets of special happenings that make our lives so special. Let me give an example. When I was a kid, I spent many lazy summer days at my grandparents” farm here in den. My cousin and I would complain on a daily basis about how bored we were, and that there was “nothing” to do. It would be 45 years later before I had the privilege to live in this beautiful gift from God—the Valley—and enjoy the heck out of my boring life. On Friday, May 20, I picked up my paycheck from my boss’ house in Hooper and then headed to T.J. Trailers to get my horse trailer that was being repaired. My check was sitting on my front seat because I was going to deposit it on my way home. Instead, I decided to go home because I didn’t want to drive the trailer through the drivein at the bank. As I passed the Yacht Club on the way home, a big gust of wind came up out of nowhere and blew my check right out the window. Cars were coming up fast behind me and the shoulder was narrow so | didn’t stop. I went home to drop off the trailer and then went back to look for my check. I spent about one half of an hour walking up and down the shoulder in the wind but didn’t’ find my check. I went home and called my boss who wasn’t very sympathetic. She said there would be a $30 stop payment fee to issue a new check. This was discouraging news and the weekend went by without any further action on my part On the following Tuesday, I received a call from Sergeant Ryon Hadley from the Weber County Sheriff’s office asking ifI had lost a paycheck. Totally shocked and amazed, I related the incident of it blowing out of my window. He told me that Patti Child of Huntsville was supervising a group of boys from Cindy Baker’s Snowcrest Heidi Moncrief, Eden A Republic Versus a Democracy Democracy! I have heard enough of democracy! Our form of government is a Republic! There is a great difference. A democracy is a form of tyranny by the majority. Today, in the U.S., that majority is money; wealth rules! Our Republic is ruled by law; law constructed by Congress within the limit of powers given to it by the people as outlined in the Constitution. “That to secure these Rights [unalienable, not constitutionI! governments nstituted among men, deriving their just a from governed [all citizens]. . .
