One of the most interesting accounts of the early history of the valley was furnished by Joseph Wood of Trenton, Utah, who built the first house in Ogden valley. In addition to the detailed program of the day there were more than a dozen family reunions in which relatives were reunited after years of separation. Members of the arrangement committee announced today that scores of former residents of Huntsville are being entertained by the present citizens but that all who may desire to attend the home coming may feel assured of accommodations. Fourth of July Being Observed Huntsville aters, canyon outings, and the amusements at the resorts are giving the people of Ogden a safe and sane Fourth of July celebration. With a patriotic meeting in the central park of the town and a program of sports during the afternoon, Huntsville celebrated the Fourth of July in the good old-fashioned way today. It was also the concluding day of a four days’ home-coming celebration in which scores of former residents of Ogden valley have been the guests of the Huntsville citizens since Sunday. The day’s program included an anvil chorus at daybreak, followed by a flag raising at sunrise. John Halls delivered the speech of welcome at the morning meeting and the principal oration ofthe day was made b David O. McKay of this, city. A patriotic feature of the program was a pageant in which five young women represented the “Goddess of Liberty” and America’s allies, England, France, Russia and Italy. afternoon the program of sports will include a baseball game, races and a competitive tournament under auspices of the Utah State Gun club. An automobile sightseeing trip through Ogden valley featured the Tuesday program of the home-coming celebration. Many residents of the valley who have not visited their former home in years were the guests of Huntsville citizens on the trip. There was a complimentary musical entertainment in the meeting house Tuesday evening. By July 4, 1917 With stores, factories, and offices closed, all Ogden is today observing the Fourth of July, greatest of all the national holidays. The big parade this morning, the boxing contest and other sports this afternoon, furnish enough amusements to insure the enjoyment of the day by everyone. While the parade and meeting at Lester park was the big feature of this morning’s celebration, the boxing contest between Al Young and Jack White, with preliminaries by Jimmy Johns and Pat Gilbert, and other fast boys, will be the feature of this afternoon’s observance. This show, which is to be staged at the Orpheum theater, will attract hundreds of boxing fans from Ogden and Salt Lake. The baseball game between the Twentieth Infantry of Fort Douglas and the Southern pacific nine at Glenwood park will attract many baseball fans; and the shoot in which the members of the Ogden Gun club will participate at Huntsville starting at 1 o’clock will draw to that town many Ogden marksmen and their friends. In the Canyon Glenwood park, the Hermitage in Ogden Canyon, and the Hot Springs will all draw their quota of holiday crowds, and hundreds will undoubtedly go to Lagoon this evening. this morning automobiles loaded with fishing parties were making their way to the streams up Ogden canyon, and it is expected that some big catches of trout will be recorded by the holiday anglers. The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight reported that the average Us. home price rose by 12.54 percent in the 12month period ending March 31, 2006.
