Come on down to any Weber County Library location and sign up for your own FREE library card. Students at Valley Elementary School are challenged to make a quota to win a class party at the Ogden Valley Branch Library. If 80% of the students have signed up for a library card—or if they have access to a library card—their entire class will win a party at the library. The party will feature the showing of one of the library’s fine films, plus popcorn and cotton candy. side, under the stars. September 10: Ogden Concert Band September 17: Brenn Hill September 24: Sourdough, a subset of Tanglewood Discovery Time Discovery Time is held in 7-week sessions at all library locations for infants and children up to 5 years of age. Children are introduced to books, music, and art and participate in learning activities. This is a great way for children to learn about the library, meet other children, develop social skills, and most importantly, develop beginning reading and library skills. Discovery Time is held at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. September 10: “Working On the Farm” September 17: “Elephants” September 24: “Under the Sea” Utah Humanities Council Book Discussion Series “The Lure of the American West,” A Reading and Discussion Series presented by the Utah Humanities Council, funded in part by the 2002 Cultural Olympiad. Copies of each book are available at the library, provided by Utah Humanities Council. Book discussions will begin at 7:00 p.m. September 6: The Professor’s House by Willa Cather, discussion leader: Sally Shigley, WSU. October 4: The Woman at Otowi Crossing by Frank Waters, discussion leader: Kathryn McKay, WSU November 8: The Sky, the Stars, the Wilderness by Rick Bass, discussion leader: Kathryn McKay, WSU Live Music @ Your Library The hills will be alive with the sounds of cultural diversity at Ogden Valley Branch Library in Huntsville throughout the month of September. A series of special events will be held weekly in the library courtyard—out- Open on Sundays! Beginning September 9, and continuing through May, 2002, all Weber County Library locations will be open on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note additional activities listed in the calendar of events. Unique Businesses Open Doors in Eden’s Historic Blacksmith Shop By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Staff N & D, one of Eden’s newest businesses, held its grand opening the last week of July. Offering a wide variety of original art, antiques and gifts, the Marsha Diamanti and Yolanda Nietert of N & D. shop is located at 2157 N. 5500 E. in the historic Wilbur blacksmith shop on the west side of Eden Park in the old town square. Business owner Yolanda Nietert, an artist herself, says her first love has always been art. “Setting up a shop promoting local artists seemed like a natural thing to do,” stated the former Forest Service employee. N & D provides an eclectic variety of items for sale that will fit about any budget. The store sells a unique line of Bohemian hand blown, art glass from Czechoslovakia, antiques, pottery, paintings, crafts and much more. N & D is open from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Fridays; and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The store is closed Sundays and Mondays. The blacksmith shop is co-rented with business owners Cory Nelson and Stephanie Wisely who run Next Dimension, a specialty shop which sells fine art, photography, music and other gift items.
