Mountain Arts and Music is gearing up for a great summer of creativity! We are a nonprofit organization with the mission of “Supporting the Creative Arts in Ogden Valley.” We are all about people doing art or music, so we offer opportunities through workshops, events, and other activities. Here are some of the events we have planned this summer. Fiber Dying with Dyer’s Woad - Yes, that nasty invasive plant with the beautiful flower was brought here by pioneers for a reason—to use for dying fabric. There are precursor chemicals to indigo in the leaves of the dyer’s woad plant. This workshop takes participants through the 3-step process to extract the dye and make it useable for dyeing fabric. It is about a 3-hour magical process. We’ll serve a light lunch, and you will go away with beautifully dyed pieces of fiber, fabric, or whatever. It is planned for Saturday, June 3, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Eden Community Center/bowery at Eden Park. The cost is $25/ person, which includes all supplies. Register and pay online at mountainartsandmusic.org. Kids Art Classes - We have completed two sessions of Kids Art on Tuesday mornings for the home schoolers and will do another session in June. For more information and to register, please go to mountainartsandmusic.org/kidsart-classes. We just successfully completed six sessions of art classes at Valley Elementary and are working on plans to offer more during the 2023-2024 school year. KIDS NEED ART! Open Arts & Music - This free event will be held every Thursday evening from 6:00 to dusk in beautiful Huntsville Square starting Thursday, June 29. We offer watercolor supplies and instruction by two awesome art teachers, a kids’ art station, and an open mic for music or the spoken word. All levels are welcome. It is a family friendly weekly evening of creativity in a beautiful spot! Check our website for more information. Mountain Arts & Music Festival - This one-day festival held July 4 in Huntsville Square and features up to 25 art vendors selling original fine art with a line-up of awesome live music all day. Around noon you’ll see Ogden Valley Native Christopher Haaser do his awardwinning juggling. We also feature a beautiful community art display of the amazing artworks of many local Ogden Valley artists and a silent auction of some very fine art.
