Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 10 Volume III, Issue XI April 1, 2001 Third Grade Teacher Receives Award On Tuesday, February 6, third grade Valley Elementary teacher Mrs. Jolene Iverson was the recipient of the Art Educator of the Year Award at a City based non-profit organization. Mrs. Iverson was nominated by the faculty at Valley Elementary. ARTS provides more than 500 programs, reaching more than 200,000 children in 27 of Utah's 40 school districts. The statewide competition was open to all educators, grades kindergarten through six. Candidates were judged on artistic merit, creativity and educational structure. It’s Valley Elementary Kindergarten Round-up Time Parents, please remember, if you have a child who will turn five on, or before September 1, 2001, you and your child are invited to attend the annual Kindergarten Round-up which is coming up soon. The event is slated for April 18, 2001. Registration will be held at 3:35 p.m. in the hall in front of the office at Valley Elementary. The Kindergarten Round-up will be held immediately after registration at 4:00 p.m. in the Multi-purpose room. We are looking forward to seeing all our new Kindergartners who will be attending Valley during the 2001- 2002 school year. We also look forward to meeting the parents. Weber High PTSA News Jolene Iverson gathering at the Marriott's Little America Grand Ballroom in Salt Lake City. The award is sponsored by A.R.T.S., Inc. (Artistic Resources for Teachers and Students), a Salt Lake Mrs. Iverson works with some students in the classroom. Weber High PTSA President Rosemary White reminds the community to keep “hanging in there” when it comes to supporting our kids. We’re in the home stretch of the 2001-2002 school year. Also, the PTSA Board is very appreciate of everyone’s support during the school year. Remember, parents are always welcome at Weber High. This past month the Weber High PTSA Board sponsored Collette Healy as a nominee for the Utah “Mother of the Year” award. Congratulations to Collette, she was the winner! We couldn’t be prouder of her. We would like to remind students to check out our new birthday board. It is now up and running thanks to the efforts of Karen Collman. Thank You Karen! PTSA President Rosemary White and Malcom Johnson recently attended the Student Assets for Success conference, and returned with some great ideas to improve education at Weber High. We appreciate their dedication. There will be an outstanding parenting workshop held in the Weber High auditorium on Thursday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. Doug Brinley, co-author of “Between Husband and Wife.” He will be speaking on the subject, “Making marriage and parenting work for us.” Dr. Brinley is a professor at BYU, and has a degree in Family Life. He has written several books about the family. This is a free seminar and everyone from the community is invited to attend. We hope to see you there! PTSA would also like to remind parents that Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-12.
