Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume III, Issue XI Page 15 April 1, 2001 Valley Teams Represent Valley with Two Championship Titles The LDS Huntsville Utah Stake held their annual basketball tournament for the Young Women and Young Men in each of the nine LDS wards here in the Valley. There were three different age group-tournaments going on at the same time. Each team from each of the nine wards played eight games. The Huntsville Stake then sent the top three teams from the Valley, from each age group, on to play in the Weber North Area tournament. This tournament consisted of 64 teams in tournament. The Teachers won all five games in the Weber North Area, giving them a 1st place in the tournament. The final game for the championship was won by the Liberty team in double overtime. The Young women won all five games in the Weber North Area, giving them the second 1st place championship win by a Liberty team. Their second winning game in the series was won in overtime, and their next game they took by only two points. The Liberty 1st Ward Priests (16 and 17 year-olds) and Teachers (14 and 15 year-olds) were undefeated in the Huntsville Stake tournament, and the Liberty 1st Ward Young Women went into the Weber North Area tournament as a 3rd seed. The Priests won four games in the Weber North Area, then lost the championship game giving them an honorable 2nd place in the Weber North Area The games were very close and exciting to watch. The coaches all remarked that not only were they impressed by the wins of the teams, but by the great sportsmanship displayed by all the Liberty 1st Ward Young Men and Young Women. It is quite remarkable to be able for one Ward to go to the Area Championship games and bring home, not one, but two championship teams, with an additional 2nd place team.
