This is our third year volunteering for this event. It provides a great opportunity for principal at Valley! We wanted everyone to get to know him, so we asked some questions and students to serve the community they live in, while having a lot of fun. Student volunteers will help at the finish line, clipping off chips and passing got some answers about him! out medals. This year, there are two shifts that students can choose to participate in: from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided for the students. If you can help, please contact Susan Roane, Snowcrest Jr. High School counselor, by calling 801-476-5366. world, he said it would be a tiger or a dog. “My favorite animal is a tiger, but I don’t know if I would be able to be a tiger. I feel like I would be a dog, because dogs are loyal and trustworthy.” His favorite word is onomatopoeia. Also, his favorite color is red! He is a very interesting man, and we are very happy he is here! Note: The meaning of onomatopoeia . . . the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named, e.g., cuckoo, sizzle, etc.) You Can Help Others: Adopt a Mom! By Tammy Dickson Guffey, Liberty native, kindness coach, mom and face painter! I forgot; I said I would never forget, and I did. I didn’t keep my promise to help other moms because I forgot how hard it was. Tonight I remember; I’m sitting here rocking my friend’s baby because she is at the ER in post-surgery. I’m remembering the nights of waking up every hour, and the only thing that would sooth the unsettled infant is walking—not rocking. Not sitting or lying; only upright walking. Also, I’m thinking of all the moms who stayed up with my babies when I needed more help than I could ever ask for; when I was dying—sleep deprived, dehydrated and starving. Motherhood was killing me. My mom had ten kids and she made it look easy. She never yelled, she never freaked out (except the occasional chasing of my brothers with a spoon). I didn’t know it would be this hard. It reminds me of yoga; the preciseness of the pose. Moving your body in ways it’s debatable if it should move. And then they want you to breathe! On top of it all... “Don’t forget to breathe!” I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t sleep. After I got my two tiny babies to bed I would stay up as long as I could because if I went to bed...tomorrow would come…and that was just too much. I remember my husband asked me what I wanted for Mother’s Day. “A hotel by myself— no kids, no phone, nothing . . . just me and a room I don’t have to clean.” I know there are so many ladies who want to have kids and can’t. I’m offering this idea to you—be an adoptive mom by adopting a mom! There is someone who lives near you that, perhaps, you could literally save her life by befriending her, offering to help her, loving her kids, loving her instead of being hurt, mad, or jealous because she keeps having kids, and may even complains about it, or doesn’t seem to be doing as good as job at as you would. This, when you would “kill” for what she complains about! Life sucks sometimes and it’s not fair, and LETTER TO EDITOR cont. from page 2 it’s not always kum-ba-yay by the fire, but sometimes we get our blessings through the struggles of others. I know there are a lot of depressed women out there who can’t find their purpose; I invite you to adopt a mom! Instead of looking for your purpose in life and spending your days soul searching, show up in someone’s life who needs more help than they could ever ask for. Find your purpose by doing, serving, and loving—not by thinking and planning and searching. I know there are a lot of empty nesters out there who may be sad and lonely, maybe even bored. I invite you to reach out and find a way to adopt a mom, in any way that works for you. It can be something small, simple—time, money, energy, a kind note, a smile, sharing the knowledge that things will get better! (Why do people keep saying it gets worse! Not helpful to someone standing on the edge ready to jump!) Be encouraging, not discouraging. On your way to worship your God, serve someone. I’ll never forget the lady who stopped by my home on her way to the temple to hold my babies for a minute so I could shower. She has a place in my heart forever. On your way to the store, call and ask a mom if she needs anything from the store. On your way into town, see if she needs any errands run. Leave a $5 bill taped to her front door, or, heck, maybe a $50 bill! In church, sit up front so she can sit in the back with her kids. Sit in the middle so she can sit on the edges. And moms! Say “yes” when someone offers you kindness. Say yes! Even if the offered help doesn’t seem like it’s exactly what you need, say “yes!” And be grateful! You don’t have to be perfect and do it all yourself! You’re almost there; you only have about 16/8ths of a mile left! And on your darkest days, here is a YouTube Song made just especially for you https://youtu. be/L2E7mp3UetQ Make it one more day at a time. You got this! Shown above is Valley Elementary sixthgrade student reporter Vanessa Mezzapelle interviewing the school’s new assistant principal Mr. Jonathan England. First of all, he was born in Salt Lake City and has four siblings—Roma, Spencer, Rob, and Tyler. He also got his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Utah. Before teaching, he thought about being a doctor, or some kind of coach! He had no choice to come to Ogden Valley, but he said, “I’m glad that they put me here; it’s a wonderful place with wonderful people.” Ogden Marathon Opens General Registration October 3 The Ogden Marathon will be accepting registrations for the 17th running of the Ogden Marathon beginning October 3. In 2016 the Ogden Marathon hosted nearly 9,000 competitors as they enjoyed the beauty and majesty of the Ogden area. Jennie Payne, who has completed numerous marathons and endurance races can’t say enough about the course and organization. “I’ve run Boston, New York, and Rock N Roll Marathons and I can honestly say the the faiths of both Clive Bundy...and Hillary Ogden Marathon is by far the best, most well Clinton? Sorry Mr. Stewart, but grunts always thought Air Force pilots functioned like Clive Bundy and Hillary Clinton and never quite grasped the ARTFULLY UNITING consequences of their actions. As an ex-soldier, I am embarrassed by the situation voters are facing in the next election...but fortunately we have voting options. All that said, please vote. Chris Stewart proudly states he is sworn to defend. Hillary Clinton chose to function outside the laws and policies of this country. I have yet to see her threaten to shoot a law enforcement officer doing their job. Congressman Stewart, please reread the Constitution. Nowhere in the document are you, as a representative of the people, allowed to persecute and call out those who think differently than yourself, while allowing others who think like you to break the law. Wouldn’t it be better to let the Constitutionally Bernie Hart, established courts and legal system decide Eden In addition to a new assistant principal at Valley Elementary (Mr. Jon England, far right), the school has two new teachers and a librarian.
