Gallery 25 Opens New Exhibit Carol Fielding of Roy will be the featured artist for the month of February at Gallery 25 on Historic 25th Street in Ogden. Carol learned to love art from the influence of her father who was the director of a Rock Springs, Wyoming art center. Carol says she has always been moved by color and by all of God’s creations. She states, “An artist has a need to capture a fleeting moment or mood, and recreate it . . . so that, hopefully, others can see what you saw and love it.” Carol paints in a variety of media, and finds beauty in everything she sees, resulting in very diverse art. Carol’s show will open on the Friday Night Art Stroll, February 1, from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Gallery 25, 268 Historic 25th Street in Ogden. Continuing work is on display featuring Lucile Chamberlin, Keith Dabb, Lauri Eskelson, Jeff Hepworth, Liz Pierce, Mac Stevenson, Lorin Wilde, Kevin Wasden, and Doug Wride. Metropolitan Opera in HD—World’s great singers in a theater near you The Metropolitan Opera in New York has announced that it will increase the number of televised live performances to movie houses during their 2007/08 season. “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD,” a series of live performance transmissions shown in high definition in movie theaters throughout North America, Europe, and Japan, has been highly successful. The transmissions have grown from 60 movie theaters for the first showing to over 230, with most of the performances being sold out. Opera goers from the Wasatch Front will be given the opportunity to view the live performances simultaneously at six theaters from Ogden to Provo. The HD screenings also are heard in Dolby Digital 5.1 with surround sound. The Metropolitan has also added live interviews and special features, which give audiences a rare look behind-the-scenes. In cities where the opera transmissions have been seen, local opera companies have actually seen an increased interest in their own live performances. The Los Angeles Times praised the series, “The Met’s experiment of merging film with live performances has created a new art form . . . . This venture may be the most significant development in opera since the supertitle.” The dates and operas to be presented are Puccini’s Manon Lescaut (February 16); Peter Grimes (March 15); Tristan & Isolde (March 22); La Boheme (April 4); Daughter of the Regiment (April 26).
