Show Volume XV Issue IV The Ogden Valley news Page February 1, 2008 Snowcrest Talent Show a Great Success AYSO Needs Support of Soccer You missed out if you did not attend the 2nd annual Skyhawk Talent Showcase and Dinner held Friday, January 18. The night began with a wonderful dinner catered by the Hearthside. We were then entertained by the fabulous talent of Brenn Hill, Nashville recording artist. We were honored that he would take part that evening. The highlight of the night was our own student talent from Snowcrest Junior High. The outstanding talent in this community brought the roof down! Thank you to our awesome students who performed and entertained us. We love you! We predict recording contracts in the future! Snowcrest Junior High needs and appreciates your support of this fundraiser now and in the future. Hosting this type of fundraiser keeps our community free of the dreaded door to door sales for cookies, chocolates, portraits, wrapping paper, etc. We feel that we have found a way to invite the community to a wonderful evening where the students themselves “earn” money by performing their talents for you. The students love performing for the public and look forward to this opportunity. Please don’t miss the opportunity to attend next year! Thank you to our generous s pons ors /b u s i nesses in this community who are always willing to step up financially, and help this event get off the ground. We could not do it without you. There are many people behind the scenes that didn’t receive the recognition they deserved. Please know that your work and donations of time did not go unnoticed. A big thank you goes to Veldon Wardle, Julie Garner, the office staff at Snowcrest, Zach Buttars, Brad Vause, Heather Barton, Richard Sorensen, and our PTSO volunteers. Numerous people from broad backgrounds of AYSO experience came forward to help. People with one to 20 years of volunteer time stepped up to get the season started with almost 40% of those having no children still in the program. But now it’s time for parents/guardians/friends of recreational soccer to get involved to ensure this opportunity for children to play soccer continues in our region, this includes Huntsville, Eden, Liberty, and Ogden Canyon. The AYSO Philosophy is such a wide scope of human kindness. It reaches far beyond soccer into general life principles—Everyone Plays, Good Sportsmanship, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Balanced Teams. Volunteers operate the majority of the National AYSO organization. In our region, no one is paid. Your neighbors, parents of your children’s friends, teachers of your kids, family doctors, etc. are involved as volunteers. Step forward now to help keep this great soccer organization and playing opportunity going. Without more parent/ friends/family coming forward, the chance for your child to continue with AYSO recreational soccer will end in our valley. Many are already helping—Kathy Nelson, Jamie Froerer, Doug Spainhower, LeiLani Gauchet, Cindy Hillstrom, Brian Jeannie Johnson, Melanie Judd, and more. The opportunity for your player to play next spring may die unless parents—those of you with a vested interest—come forward to help. The Board includes a Regional Commissioner, Assistant Regional Commissioner, Treasurer, Child and Volunteer Protective Advocate, Coach Administrator, Referee Administrator, Registrar, Secretary, Field Coordinator, Purchasing Agent, Coaches, Referees, Team Parents, Website Administrator, Publicity Volunteer, and more and more. The governing board that makes decisions about how, when, and where your child plays, meets throughout the year and we need you! Please call any of those people listed above or Kay Larrison (745-3927), Doug Spainhower (745-0943), Kathy Nelson (745-2047), Jamie Froerer (745-9271), or Melanie Judd (745-3446) for more information and meeting dates. As an AYSO volunteer who started volunteering with my husband nearly 15 years ago when our children just entered AYSO, I can only say how much I value this pro- gram and the tremendous friendships that will continue. The people involved in AYSO are genuinely committed to the program and have a central vision to give all of our kids a chance to play soccer in a safe environment with good coaching and balanced teams. The program can be spread across so many facets of life including other sports and relationships. Please join us in keeping soccer going in our valley. Call now and join us in the opportunity to help your child. |
