UDOT to Host Transportation Planning Meetings at Library Valley Residents Support Republican Representatives at Polling Booths By Shanna Francis The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has initiated a program to assist rural communities in developing Transportation Master Plans. As part of this program, UDOT representatives will visit Huntsville November 9 and November 10. At no cost to Huntsville Town, UDOT’s planning office will provide the technical expertise to compile a draft for the Ogden Valley Area Transportation Master Plan. UDOT planning staff will meet with all interested parties on November 9 at 7:00 p.m. to provide a more detailed explanation of the transportation planning process and to help area residents identify area transportation needs and concerns. At a second meeting on November 10 at 7:00 p.m., they will present additional information to help determine top priorities from the needs identified at the initial meeting. Both meetings will be held at the Weber County Ogden Valley Library Auditorium at 131 South 7400 East in Huntsville. Area residents are invited to attend both of these meetings and take part in the discussions to help identify and prioritize local transportation concerns and ideas. Attendees are asked to RSVP by leaving a voice message with the Huntsville Town Hall, 801-745-3420. WSU Professor, Students, and Alumnus Produce Geological Map of Ogden Area A Collaborative effort between a Weber State University professor and the Utah Geological Survey has culminated in the release of a new geologic map of the Ogden area. The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) has released the Geologic map of the Ogden 7.5minute quadrangle, Weber and Davis Counties, Utah (scale 1:24,000), which covers parts of Utah’s Wasatch Range and Wasatch Front basin. WSU Geosciences professor and department chair Adolph Yonkee from Nordic Valley worked on the project at UGS with Weber State graduate Mike Lowe. During the course of the project, which took more than 10 years to complete, several WSU geosciences students assisted in the research and compilation of the map. Powder Mountain Winter Resort opened for night skiing on November 2, two weeks ahead of schedule. “In addition to the early opening date, we also will open the Sundown Lift at 4:00 p.m. giving our customers 30 extra minutes of fun every night of the season.” said Marc Paulsen, public relations manager. Night skiing operates from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. Night passes range from $13 for children to $18 for adults. Snow coverage throughout the resort is excellent and the remaining lifts will open once staffing and training is complete. North Ogden dentist Allen Christensen beat out Huntsville candidate Jim Hasenyager in District 19’s senatorial race, and incumbent Joe Murray claimed a decisive victory over newcomer political candidate Rik McDonald in Legislative District 8. Despite several law suits that the county has taken a financial beating on over the past few years and news of heavy budget shortfalls, Weber County residents gave their vote of approval for the way the county is being managed by voting in another Republican Commissioner—Craig Dearden—who was nominated to run at this year’s county Republican Convention by current commissioners Glen Burton and Camille Cain. In an initial ballot count, Dearden captured 10,939 of the votes over Democratic candidate Mike Monson who received 7,118 votes. Huntsville People’s Choice candidate Roger Price received 618. Still undecided is the status of Weber County Proposition #1, or r.a.m.p. The county is still waiting for about 1,200 absentee ballots to be counted and verified before making a call on the initiative’s success or failure. By Wednesday morning, November 3, votes supporting r.a.m.p. stood at about 600 ahead of the nays. Yonkee said it was natural to work with Lowe on the project, since both have done extensive work along the Wasatch Range, especially in the Ogden area. The map project is just one of several joint research endeavors between WSU, UGS, and other government agencies aimed at providing useful information for the public, said Yonkee. The map shows geologic deposits that record a long and rich history; from some of the oldest rocks exposed in Utah, to young gravels deposited on the Weber delta (the largest delta formed in Lake Bonneville during the last Ice Age). A wide variety of geologic structures have been imprinted on these deposits, recording the growth and erosion of GEOLOGICAL MAP cont. on page 11 Wolf Lodge Condo Robbed By Shanna Francis A Wolf Lodge resident returned home last tal still camera, a Kodak digital DX 6490 still and motion camera, a Nikon 6006 LSR 35 mm still camera and zoom lens, and an audio CD portfolio. sonal property missing from his condomini- If you have any information, call Weber Ogden Valley News week after being gone for only a couple of hours to find more than $4,000 worth of perum The owner reported missing a Sony digi- i reward is being offered for information or for the return of the property.
