Show HON WILLIAM DRIVER PIONEER DRUGGIST SEEKS REST came to ogden thirty six years ago and has ever since been one of foremost citizens from saturdays standard hon william driver the pioneer druggist of today retires active business ufa and Is succeeded in tho business by his son george mr driver came to ogden in the year as manager of the drug business ot godbe company in 1871 he formed a partnership with a prominent physician dr C S nellis in tho same business at tho end of two years mr driver bought out the interest of dr nellis and continued the business himself until the year 1882 when ho found it necessary to meet his rapidly in creaking patronage by taking a partner in the person of his son george they added to the already well established retail house a wholesale department this partnership continued until 1895 when the son retired since which time mr driver has conducted his business establishment alone in 1871 the great transcontinental railroads the union pacific and central pacific being in operation gave an impetus to all commercial and industrial du enterprise at this period og den was only a village of about inhabitants but with an increasing population there came a corresponding increase of all classes of business establishments from the one drug store at that time there are now some ten or more establishments of this kind in ogden city mr driver by his genial familiar personality and his honorable business principles has never failed to be in the lead As a business man he has been perseveringly enterprising and public spirited it is due to the energy pluck and adventurous spirit of such men as william driver that ogden now ranks as a great railroad and commercial center the second city in the state of utah mr driver at all time aside from personal affairs has taken a most pronounced and active part in city government and in all matters affecting the growth and permanent up building of this city and the great commonwealth of the state of utah it is a pleasure to note that as a successful business man his name will be perpetuated in the person of bis son george for whom is predicted a long and successful business career in the old stand of tho pioneer drug store THIRTY IVIEN AT WORK simmons hardware people making excellent progress A force of thirty men aro at work upon the jarge warehouse and office that is being erected for the simmons hardware company of st louis it was planned to have the building ready to move into by august ast 1st but because of delay in the arrival of the steel beams and uprights the work has been set back a month the building which Is to bd a two story brick la long by feet wide with an 11 foot basement under all making three floors the estimated cost is but it will probably be considerably over that amount before t Is finished the building will be as near fire proof as is possible the floors will be of cement seven inches thick doors and window casings will be sheeted with tin prepared for that purpose there will be hardly a stick of exposed timber in the whole structure tho basement will ba used for storing tha heavier articles such foft barbed wire nails bolts machinery and the like the tars floor will be used as a salesroom sales roon and tol offices the lighter articles such as tools ice cream freezers sheet tin buckets tubs etc will be stored on tho second A large platform for receiving goods from the cars will be built along the west side sky lights tha whole length of the building will furnish light tor the first and second floors the second floor being in the nature of a balcony three electric elevators will be installed one for each floor instead ot their regular musical program on tho last sunday of the month which Is tomorrow director of tha ogden concert band has decided to postpone tha coo cent until the fourth of july at 4 30 P m this will be welcome news to many as there is to be no general celebration of the day in ogden and the concert will prove a treat to those who are obliged to remain in town tha concert will be given at the corner of twenty fourth street and washington avenue instead of on the square as the latter place is to
