Judge Smifh appeared for the defence. Dr. Mclutyre, who attended on the late Mr. Harrison in his last sickness, gure a detailed description of the eick man's symptom, and of his own' treatment of the disease, which the Dr.'' at first supposed was bilious fuveiv From the peculiar and unnatural ymptouis which were developed during successive visits, suspicions of "something wrong" gradually grew into the conviction which he now de clared that Mr. Harrison's death wan caused by mineral poison. The Dr. wai eubjeuted to a rigid from Judge Smith, evidently a physician himself (in tkeorj at any rate)' as well as a very gentlemanly lawyer, but the Dr. showed himself thoroughly acquainted with his profession as a phyaiuiuu of the old .' echool, aud his ovidenee remained Vfho is ' unin-aired- , Dr. I P. Judge Smith put the Dr. through his finings, aud catechised him on the nature of mineral poisons, their effects on the human system, the manner of analysis in detail, eto., the Dr. answering without Imitation, and in a very satisfactory manner. Dr. Mclntyre, in trea'ing the patient, had administered, according to his own evidence,' twelve grains of blue mass, fn answer to Judge Smith, Dr. Benedict elated that blue in was a compound of mercury ami uio conserve or roses, and that arseulo entered into the coraposi. .. . una vir .1me pieruurj 01 commerce, i eis left the impression that the arscuic found in the stomach when analysed, might have becu in the medicine admin istered by Dr. Mclntyre. The Dr. stated that there were four and a half grain of mercury in 12 grains of blue mass, and the quantity of erseitio in that amount would be so very malt a to be almost undetectable. An attempt was made by the counsel f)r the defence, in his of Dr.ttinedict, to i Jentify the symptoms in Mr. Harrison's case with those of dijpthem and typhoid j but this faited when the Dr. was by Mr! lluggan, the symptoms being insufficient .to nmke out a case of tjiptheria, and too much for a case of ' typhViJ, fever. , Tail examination of the case occupied tho whole of Thursday, from 10 , till!! p.m., with the exception of adjournments from 1 to 2 o'clock, and from 6 to ' 7 Vclook. Its object ii au entire revolution in the existing order of society, for the elevation of the laboring classes, by the destruction of aristocratic distinctions, the abolishing of monopolies, a more equal distribution of property, and the establishment of popular sovereignty in its broadest and fullest sense. The doctrines of this formidable political society are eagerly imbibed by the and oppressed laborers of all the European nationalities, and, either publicly or secretly, meetings are beiug held, and an understanding entered into with other blanches of the Association in every part of the continent, Russia not excepted. The danger in which the crownod heads of Europe are placed, may be understood from iho fact that the Communes of Pari fought for Ihe same principles Which the Internationals aim to establish, and the same desperate determination exhibited In their awful struggle may be expected to characterize every branch of the organization when the time comes for an outbreak.
