One of the most important railway combinations of the period is to be consummated in ten days, resulting in a direct line under a siugle management between Halifax, Boston, New Yom, and all the principal American cities ot the south and west. Tbe chief figurehead in the movement is the Pennsylvania Central road All the intervening roads between Halifax and Boston are to be swallowed up by that giant cor poration. A large party of railroad officials, interested in the consolidation and combination, have gone on a tour of inspection, and their journey will not end this side ef Halifax or Prince Edward's Island. The party includes the directors of the Eastern railroad, some directors of the Pennsylvania railroad, and others. The object of this tour is partly one of observation, and to this is added the consideration of the proposed consolidation. The presence of the Pennsylvania Central people is significant from the fact that they are large owners in European and North American roads.
