Today there is a great need for humane societies to function everywhere, and never before have so many been organized. Animal shelters are springing up in nearly every city to look after the starved, abused and unwanted animals that for not fault of their own are on earth and look to us for protection and care. Bonds of Mercy and Junior humane societies also contribute greatly to the wcl fare of animals. It might interest you to know that in Muncie, Indiana, there is a Junior humane society of over 10,000 school children, who love Bnd protect their pets and denounce cruelty. No greater humanitarian ever lived than Abraham Lincoln, tender, sympathetic, merciful, whose first com' position while in school was on the subject of cruelty to animals. lie was a friend of every creature of fur and feather and devoted to his dog, Honey. There are thousands of other men and women who devote their life and their money to the cause of humanity for fidelity and devotion can have no better symbol than that of the noble dog and the unselfish toil for our benefit of the patient horse. Cattle and smaller animals and the birds also contribute much to our comfort and joy. Slides will be shown in theatres, and in pet shows and parades will be heldwill effort in every fact, many cities; be put forth to teach the growing child mercy and consideration for animals.
