Show FEARFUL ACCIDENT. aii jxt imdioir. gieit A Young Man Chru.shed to Death bj the Cars. THritsDAr Mousing, Feb. 20r 187i; A futal accident- of - anv-s- t distress- Youthful Depravity. If parents could realize the great danger their children incur by being allowed to frequent the streets of at all hours of the day and night they would most certainlv take more effective measures to prevent the evil. We speak now of children under twelve or fourteen years of age; those older must be spoken of in a Little boys and different manner. girls in large numbers congregate about tiie principal streets of town, especially during the evening hours; and indulge in practices productive of no good. Many of the boys fight, smoke, chew ,.and occasionally drink, and some of the girls quarrel, swear, and use most disgusting language They all.run up and down the walks, interrupting the free pussage of pedestrians, and too often playing annoying tricks upon unwary people. We do not desire te exaggerate this evil; but we do wish to speak of it in such strongly truthful terms that pa rents and guardians will be most effectually aroused on the subject. The main streets of town are not proper playgrounds for children at any time; and the little folks should be provided with suitable means of enjoying themselves elsewhere. When regrets do corne to carelessjand neglectful persons, they will be bitter indeed. Now is the best time that can be found for action in the matter. Remedy. the Business Houses. We are pleased to seo that a move ment has been organized to have the principal business houses of this city closed on Washington's Birth day. This is quite proper; and we believe that the merchants who are so patriotic and considerate will lose nothing in the estimation of tbe public. In order that all may re ceive the benefit of a holiday we sug gest that the movement be made still more general; and that those business men whose names do- not appear in the notice published in this issue, make arrangements to- take this one day from the cures and perplexities of life, and spend it in genu ine and proper enjoyment.
