Show PIAJFORI OF THE OEIOCRATS I The followlug is the platform adopted adopt-ed by the Weber county Democrats at the convention Saturday afternoon: We. the Democratic party of Weber county, in convention assembled, reaffirm re-affirm our steadfast faith in and adherence ad-herence to Democratic principles as heretofore enunciated In national convention, con-vention, and especially pledge ourselves our-selves and candidates to the following follow-ing platform of principles: 1. We endorse the Democratic platform plat-form of the state convention, aJopted at Provo on Sept. 15, 1910. 2. We shall insist upon the enact-luent enact-luent of laws-fa) laws-fa) Prohibiting the manufacture and sale of intoxlcatlncc liquors within with-in the stuto of Utah, and providing fevere penalties for the violation of such laws. (b) Providing for the Initiative and referendum and the light of recall. In accordance with tho provisions of our constitution, which Republican legislatures have persistently refused to put Into effect. (c) Prohibiting the acceptance of campaign contributions, money or promises of any kind from any one affected by legislation, and prohibiting prohibit-ing the betting on elections, the use of passes by all officers and candidates, candi-dates, and especially the judiciary; and limiting the ameuint of campaign expenses, and requiring the publication publica-tion of tho same both before and after aft-er election, with severe penalties for the violation of any of such laws. (d) Permitting cities to establish a commission form of government. (e) Putting into operation the provisions pro-visions of the state constitution as to the regulation of transportation char- 1 ges by common carriers, and tho pre- I vcutlon of discrimination and abuse thereunder, through the. means of a non-partisan commission. (fl For the control and regulation of all public utility corivorations. (g) Prohibiting all ofheers, ato, county and municipal, from accepting free passes, or other favors, from any public corporation, and providing for , severe penalties for the violation of. such laws. 1 (h) For tho protection of labor and the adjustment of differences by a ) ' non-part isnu board or commission. Wo hold the Republican sheriff I ; and prosecuting attorney of Weber l county responsible for fail 11 re to en-j en-j force. the state law against gambling, and charge them with criminally permitting per-mitting gambling and prostitution to be conducted openly and notoriously in Weber county during the entire time of their incumbency, and of confessed inability to fulfill the. duties du-ties of their respective offices by openly and repeatedly stating publicly public-ly and otherwise that they were not able to obtain any evidence that gani-.bling gani-.bling was being conducted in this county. We pledge the nominees for . fcheriff and county attorney of this convention to honestly and " faithfullj enforce the laws a.galn?t gambling and prostitution. We favor the enactment of a law authorizing the recovery of money lost in gambling by the losing party, or a creditor, or by any person dependent de-pendent upon sue h party for support. sup-port. We condemn the present practice of public officials in electing as to what laws they will enforce, and we pledge our candidates. If elected, to enforce all laws so long as they remain upon the statute books. Wo oppose the present practice ot expending money for the employment of workero or carriages, or other r.ie-ans of conveyance, on election day, or prior thereto, by candidates or political parties, and we tavor the enactment of laws that will strictly prohibit such practices and punish the violation there-of. ,We condemn tho present practice of permitting thr reckless running of automobiles au-tomobiles through Ogden canyon. thereby endangering the lives of our . citizens, and pledge our candidates to prevent such Jangero-.is practice.
