Show HAVE A SECOND PRIMARY ELECTION. 1 Taft's supporters, sensing defeat in the coming campaign have proposed that both Taft and Roosevelt withdraw as presidential candidates in order that the breach in the party may be healed before be-fore November. The Standard still maintains that Roosevelt was the choice of the duly elected delegates to the Chicago convention and holds that, if the Taft men insist on being the beneficiaries of the high-handed methods employed by the national committee, Roosevelt must oppose op-pose them to the utmost, but, if there is to be a spirit of fairness and amity and the wrongs of the Chicago convention are to be righted, we are favorable to a general house-cleaning withm the party. This is how the cleaning should be done: Taft must resign Roosevelt will call off third part movement. Then there shall be another call for primaries popular presidential presi-dential primaries to be held in all states which in "the past have cast their electoral votes for a Republican candidate for president. m Taft and Roosevelt shall be eligible. The one receiving the indorsement in-dorsement of the Republican voters shall be the standard-bearer of the reunited part'. We are prepared to support any candidate' indorsed by a majority major-ity of the Republicans of the country, having faith in the wisdom of the masses. |
