Show ISTATENEWS ADA COUNTY, IDAHO, RETAINS SALOONS Bolso, Ida., June 19. Ada county today voted to rotaln tho licensed saloon by n majority of 1700. Tho fight waged in this city and the country precincts was one of tho most bitter in tho history of the state. Boise rolled up a majority for tho 'wets" that tho "dry" country precincts pre-cincts could not overcome. ReturnB tonight give the licensed saloon a larger majority by 1000 than they received two years ago, when an attempt at-tempt was rnado to place this county under operation of tho local option law Tho fact that many of tho "dry" voters had made the fight for commission com-mission government for this city, ousting the old charter administration, administra-tion, with the understanding that no attempt would bo made to call a local lo-cal option election, caused tho defeat of the "dry" Issue, for it was felt thnt the election today should have been held off until later, giving tho commissioners an opportunity to adopt a strict regulation plan. Tho prohibitionists Tiecamo Impatient and Insisted on calling the olcctlon, claiming claim-ing that they had to be vindicated of the charge that the saloon men had offered them $5,000 to hold it off The "drys" carried but ono precinct pre-cinct in tho city of Boise, but swept most of the county precincts. Their majorities were cut down In the latter, lat-ter, however. The victory of the "wets," although decisive, Is being quietly celebrated. |
