Show Democrats to Reduce Protection in Iron and Steel Washington, Jan. 2. Substantial reductions re-ductions in duties are looked for In the Democratic steel tariff schedule, which the house ways and means committee com-mittee probably will have ready for submission about tho middle of this month. It Is stated that in many instances in-stances tho Payne rates will he cut In half and that the hlshcst rate of duty allowed on any product of steel or Iron will not be "more than 35 per pent advalorem. The greatost fight probably will be over the duti' on tin Dlate. which, It is understood, Is to be cut from $1.20 to 75 cents per hundred pounds. Iron ore Is expected to go on tho free list along with all manufacturers' of steel and Iron that wve made duty free in the farmers' free list of the1 oxtra-Bession. - -.. ""."'
