Oct. 3 With hi. throat cut from ear to ear, tho wind pipe corupletel severed. J. K. Smith, a brother of Deputy Sheriff Andrew Smith, of Salt Lake. Is at L. D. S. hospital, his life in danger, although hope for his recover js held out. as the knife did not reach the jugular veins. Smith was found in a cabin near his sheep ranch at Kemmerer, Yo., I earl Saturday and brought to Salt Lake Sunday afternoon by friends. Considerable mystery surrounds the affair, and relatives believe ho was attacked by aonio unknown enemy, jiosplbly a sheep herder. Owing to his condition, it has been impossible to find out whether Smith was at-to at-to find out whether Smith was attacked, at-tacked, or whether he attempted to commit suicide. Smith, it Is known, had been drinking heavily of late and was quite despondent, although he Is reputed to be well off. He has a large herd of sheep in Wyoming, and so far as can be learned, is weil supplied sup-plied with funds. No i;tilfe was found in the vicinity of the cabin where the man was found. Andrew Smith, brother of the wound ed man. can give no reason why his brother should attempt suicide. He believes that the cutting was done ! by some enemy. Smith was resting easier late Sun-I Sun-I day night, and it was felt If he survived sur-vived the night he would recover. |
