Mrs, Nellie Han- B oeu of 541 West Fifth South street attempted to take her own life at about 7:30 o'clock last night She had secured some carbolic acid from a local drug store, according to her husband, "Curley" Hansen, without a prescription, and started to swallow It In his presence. He snatched the bottle from her and he said she became be-came so frantic that he had difficulty in keeping her in the house. A neighbor neigh-bor summoned Dr. William Anderson and also notified tho police, and Motorcycle Mo-torcycle Patrolman Hendrickson was sent to make an investigation. Dr. Anderson worked with tho woman wom-an until after midnight, when he left her in charge of a nurse. She could have been relieved much sooner, but she was stubborn and refused to tako any medicine Finally the doctor told her that If she wanted something to make her die quickly ho would give It to her, and she gulped down tho I medicine with-no more remonstrance. Mr. Hansen said that his wife was operated on about a, year ago and since then had had despondent spells. oo |
