R. Greene, manager, man-ager, who came down from the hills yesterday. It was so cold up thero ice frozo Saturday night, and tho miners almost frosted their noses off. And this within with-in three-quarters of an hour by auto from Salt Lako at a tlmo when tho peoplo are dying from sweltering heat throughout the states east of tho Rockies. Mr. Greene says ho started tho tunnel tun-nel 200 feet lowor than at first Intended, Intend-ed, which will give seventy-five feet additional depth. This takes the mouth of the tunnel out of tho danger line ot Bnowslldes, a point worth considering consider-ing up thero. This Is a little Bouth of tho porphyry dike, toward which a turn will bo mado as soon as the channel chan-nel reaches tho solid formation. Tho tunnel will have to bo carried in 350 feet before It will catch this dike. . "Wo expect to mako close to 100 feet during July," declared Mr Greene. "Another thing which pleased mc was when I discovered a few days ago that this porphyry diko Is more or less copper stalnod along Its outlro length, through Tar Baby, a distance of 2,700 feet. "I visited the Cardiff, and conditions are looking particularly good. Tho mine is keeplpg three four-horse teams busy on tho road hauling oro down to tho sampler.. "The Big Cottonwood Con has a force of men now driving Its 100-foot tunnel into the hill. Tho face shows some Iron pyritos and specks of lead." "The East Carbonato has recently sackod eight or ten tons of ore, which looks good to me. It Is coming In in bunches. This property adjoins tho Tar Baby on tho north. "Reeds Peak got work started a few days ago on a long tunnel, which will develop tho property at depth. The district generally Is tho liveliest In years," oo |
