Show BOARD RELEASES MISS POLLOCK Salt Lake, July 4 Upon tho recommendation rec-ommendation of City Superintendent of Public Schools D. H. UhrlstenBen, the services of Rosalie Pollock as primary pri-mary supervisor of tho city schools was dispensed with at a Bpeclal meeting meet-ing of the board of education last night by a strictly Mormon and Gentile Gen-tile vote. Tho action followed a lengthy and Interesting discussion, and when the voto was finally taken it stood flvo to threo In support of the superintendent's recommendutlon, tho three voting in Mibb Pollock's favor bolng the Gentile inemberB, whllo those voting against her were the Mormon members. Two members wore absont. Superintendent Chrlstensen recommended recom-mended that Miss Pollock he not reap, pointed on the ground that it was to the best interests of the department. Ho maintained that her rolatlons with the principals and toachors of tho public schools cf the city wore not as cordial as they should bo and that It was to the best Interests of the "system" "sys-tem" that her services be dispensed with. It Is understood that the fight against Miss Pollock has been on for the last throe years and that at various vari-ous times previously hor resignation has been Fought by Superintendent Chrlstensen A year ago, according to a letter which he personally read last night, Superintendent Chrlstensen suggested to Miss Pollock that It would probably be to her best Intorests and also to the Test Inference of the "system" that she take a year's leave ot absence. ab-sence. Tho vote upon thts recommendation showed that H. P, Van Polt, William J. Barrette and Dr. C. I Douglas were In favor ot reappointing Miss Pollock, Pol-lock, whllo R. H. Bradford. Arnold G. Glaquo, C. S Martin, Mathonihah Thomas and President James T Hammond Ham-mond voted to uphold the superintendent. superintend-ent. Sam C. Park and Oscar W Moylo were absent. Mr. Park Is temporarily tem-porarily away from the city, but he has declared that ho desired to cast his voto for Miss Pollock. Mr. Park and tho three who voted for Miss Pollock aro the only four Gcntilo members on the board. |
