Ojticm and HtmUr vf tht Chum-mer- e vf Ogden : UurnJui ex We, your committee to devise and report a plan by mhich reliable facts and statistics can be compiled and published, setting forth the natural resources of Ogden, its manufacturing Industrie and needs, also our present commerce and development of alL having carefully considered this important work, respectfully submit the following recommendations: First That to this end the business men and manufacturers of our city organize at once in a special and compact form. Second That the work be taken up in the following order: First, collect, compile and publish a thorough and reliable statement of facts covering the entire tield and objects as set forth above. Second, appoint and keep in active operation a committee to continuously look after, foster and protect the shipping and trutlio interest of Ogden merchants and manufacturers. Third That the organization keep all work at doing steadily to establish it can, practically, now industries, foster and aid those we have, and to expand our commerce. As a means to carry on this work we advise that the following policy be adopted and followed: Charter the organization and by its 'charter limit its power to contract or make obligations to the amount of its actual resources ownod and in its posses sion. As a moans of raising funds, accept cash and property in payment for stock, and issue no stock until it is fully paid up. It had a business ring about it. It is plain that Ogden needs something of this kind and needs it very Boon. Mr. Ridgely explained that the report expressed the views of the committee, and those whom the committee had consulted. It is intended to be an auxiliary to tho Chamber of Commerce, which must now collect means and pay its debts. While it is doing this, the proposed organization can go ahead and do the verv necessary work implied in the report. This auxiliary would report to the Chamber, as does any subordinate or ganization. Preliminary steps were taken to investigate the offer and see if it can be put into execution. For the committee on collecting dues the committee reported that it found the members generally willing to pay, g season some of but it being them asked a little more time. It reported good progress. Mr. O. O. Howard, Jr., explained his plan for running private excursion cars to Ogden from Boston for New England people, and expects to open offices m the east for carrying on this work. He asked for himself and his associate, Mr. H. S. of the Hutchings, the endorsement Chamber cf Commerce. It was moved that such arrangements shall be made as will be satisfactory to the Chamber and Messrs. Howard and Hutchings. Mr. Hutchings explained that this excursion plan has worked well for the south and h thought it will work well for the west, as eastern people are now turning their eyes to this region. Members then urged that the necessity of taking steps to put the plan for benefitting the city, and reported by the committee into force. A member explained at length the systematic plan employed by Lincoln. He further urged the necessity of immediately preparing the needed information about the city and urrounding country. He moved that a committee of three to push the work be appointed. The motion was carried. Committee: E. R. Ridgeley, A. L. Richardson and Frank Cannon. It was proposed and moved that as there is a need of immediate finances members be requested to pay their dues for the next half year in advance whea able to do so. This motion was carried.
