Battered and bruised beyond recognition, Robert McDonald, locally known as "Irish Bob," was found in his little house at Cherry Hill, two miles north of Hackensack, on the New Jersey and New York railroad, at a late hour last evening by Jack Sisco, a colored man living near. Tho house is a miserable tumbledown structure, in which McDonald has lived alone tor about eight years Bince the death of his wife, who was a dissipated daughter of the late Judge McCunn. To James Duree, McDonald said: "Phil Mann did it." These are the only words reported to have ber n uttered by the sufferer. There w ere blood marks on the floor and walls, indicating . a struggle. Philip Mann served a term in state prison for assault on Joseph Van Riper of Etna, and ' was released from prison last September. Nobody seemed to know why the assault upon McDonald was made, as he has always boon an inoffensive person. It could scarcely have been for robbery, as MoDonald has little cash at any time. Mrs. Jane Sisco says McDonald and a German friend of his were at her house last night When they started away Mann remarked that he would go with them. McDonald replied that he was not wanted. Nevertheless Mann followed them, and did not return to Mrs. Sisco's until late. This morning, when told that 'Irish Bob' ' was dying, Mann said: "Dont tell any Noone I was here," and left hurridly. body knows about the whereabouts of McDonald's friend, who has not been seen in the vicinity since he left Mrs. Sisw's.
