Lee of Paradise, chairman chair-man of the Utah State USDA War Board, announced Monday. He said that retail food stor:s all over the nations will feature broilers and fryers during this week. This will be the first national nat-ional application of the program featuring Victory Specials intended to increase the marketing of seasonally sea-sonally abundant farm products when these products reach retail! markets in greatest abundance. i The thought back of victory specials, Mr. Lee explained, is to I increase the consumption of se?.-j sonally abundant products to avoid waste and to release other foods I for U. S. military forces and lend- j lease shipments. i The bro.ler and fryer merchant!- ising program is designed sc- cording to the state chairman, to encourage increased consumption of this poultry meat at the time of the year when the quantities sold by farmers are greater and prices to consumer are lower than usual. A large number of broilers and fryers will be coming to market this year, Mr. Lee Thig a result Of the great expansion that has taken place in the poultry industry in-dustry to meet wartime demands for more eggs. During the first four months of 1942, approximately 19 percent more baby chicks were hatched in the United States dur-j ing the same period In 1941 and 37 percent more than for the same time in 1940. Increased consumption of this poultry meat at the time when supplies are essential abundance will help conserve pork and other meat supplies urgently needed for this country's military forces a well as for lend lease shipments to the. United Natinns and other wartime purposes, Mr. Lee pointed out. |
