Show Game Board Plots Deer Harvest For This Season Aiming at an annual harvest o. 50,000 detr in Utah, the St,ae Board of Big Game control has authorized removal of 15,700 female fe-male deer this fall, according to Chairman Ross Leonard. I This means that permits will be Issued to about 16 per cent fewer doe hunters in 1945 than in 1944. and approximately 56 per cent less than In 1942. The proclamation, containing the board's regulations for special spec-ial hunts and doe removal, will be issued next mnth. The board's action is believed to I be the most representative in Its history because of the fact that it was based largely on the recommendations rec-ommendations of the Inter-Agen- ;y Big Oame Commiitee and the j findings from five sectional meet-j meet-j ings held by the Board of Big Game control and attended by the public in various parts of the j state as required by latest legislative legis-lative action. All post-season hunts will b; confined to December 1 to 10 in order to correct an over.grazed condition and to lessen trespass on agricultural crops. More balance distribution both of hunters and herds will be served by the 1945 regulatins, the board believes. In -the past, the Fish Lake units have had a concentration con-centration both of deer and hunters, hun-ters, a situation which is steadily being remedied by making new areas accessible, encouraging sportsmen to try less-hunted but fully as attractive areas, and maintaining herds at the carrying-capacity of the range. General basis for the reduction in doe kill is the definite improvement im-provement in range carrying-capacity reported by the Inter-Ag ency Committee. Seceral entirely new areas will be opened to doe hunters this fall, wheras hunting of hornless deer will be drastically drastic-ally reduced or entirely eliminated elimin-ated in some past-hunted sections, Mr. Leonard said. "Successful carrying out of the long range program mapped so intelligently in-telligently by the big game board and its advisors is going to require re-quire the full cooperation of the general public", the chairman declared. |
