Show Prominent Smithfield Church Worker Dies Thompson of Salt Lake City- Also 16 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Funeral services for William tPil-klngton tPil-klngton were held Sunday in the Second ward chapel with Bishop W. A. Hansen conducting. Praising the life of Mr. Pilkington were Bishop Arvel Dean of Ogden; John H. Peterson, Sylvester Low and Bishop W. A. Hansen. Opening Open-ing and closing songs were sung by the choir, directed by Mrs. Marion Richardson, with Miss Ma Richardson at the organ. Special musical numbers included; vocal duet, "In the Garden" by Marion Richardson and Mrs. George Hansen; Han-sen; vocal solo. "Dear Old Dad", by Mrs. Regcna C. Smith; organ . solo by Miss Ilia Richardson. Bishop W. L. Winn and George O. Hansen offered the prayers. Interment was in the Smithfield ' cemetery and the grave was dedi-! dedi-! cated by Harper W. PILKINGTON and family. William Pilkington Jr., a person- al acquaintance of Martin Harris, one of the three witnesses to the Book of Mormon, and a respected resident of Srrtithffeld, died at his home late Thursday evening, of course incident to age. He was 81 years of age. Mr. Pilkington has spent much time during his lifetime, in wards of Utah and Idaho, bearing his testimony as to occurences that happened while he was living at the Harris home in Clarkston. He went to live in that household at the age of 14 years and heard Mr. Harris testify many times that j "he did see an angel of the Lord i and saw him turn the golden plates of the book of Mormon." At the lime of Harris' death Mr. Pilkington was instructed to hold up the right arm of Mr. Harris and he again bore his testimony test-imony as to the truth of thincs he had witnessed- Mr. Pilkington was born in Bolton Machestershire, (England, November 13, 1860, a son of William Wil-liam and Lydia Holben Pilkington. After his family had accepted the Mormon faith they migrated to Utah, coming here in 1874. He was active in church work, being a high priest In the Smith-field Smith-field stake at the time of his death. He also was a teacher and choirs-ter choirs-ter in the Sunday School and had led Smithfield tabernacle dhoir for 18 years. In civic Hfe he held the office of city recorded for 4 years. Mre. Pilkington was married 3 times. First to Margaret Alice Fer-rell Fer-rell in the Old Salt Lake Endowment Endow-ment house in 1884 and they were parents of nine children. She died in 1920 and four years later he was married to Florence Hutchins. Following her death he again married, this time in 1935 to Alice I Dean in the Salt Lake Temple, who with five children survive. They are: Leland.
