Show j , j Smithfield Pays Tribute to Its War Dead Smithfield city's war dead were j honored at Memorial Day cere- monies held at the cemetery Sat-; Sat-; urday morning. A flag raising ceremony was held with members of the American Ameri-can Legion participating. The program pro-gram that followed, directed by Commander Carl Clark included community singing led by Gwen-della Gwen-della Thornley. accompanied by Mrs. Martha Poulson at the piano; invocation, Bishop Douglas Hooper. Mrs. Albert McCann, sang a vocal vo-cal solo, "The Flag Without a , Stain", assisted by Mrs. Roy Smith i Mrs. Victor . Hortenson, James Thornley and Anthen Reese, sing-j sing-j ing the chorus. Mayor Glen R. Winn gave an i address of welcome followed by a : vocal duet, "My Own America," j by Mrs. M. T. Van Orden and ', Mrs. Albert McCann. ! Superintendent J. W. Kirkbride ' was speaker of the day and community com-munity singing of patriotic songs : closed the program. Prayer was of- I j fered by Bishop Hooper. |
