Show Mosquitoes Can Carry Brain Fever Expert Says Investigation showing that mosquitoes mos-quitoes can carry brain fever to horses from diseased to healthy guinea pigs was announced Monday Mon-day by Dr. D. E. Madsen, animaJ pathologist, and Dr. C. F. . Knowl ton, associate entomologist of the Utah Agricultural Experiment station, who conducted the research re-search work. The investigation furthered the department of agriculture's work in proving that mosquitoes can transmit sleeping sickness to human hu-man beings as well as between horses. The investigation is pertinent pert-inent to health questions of today to-day as already there have been more than 3.000 cases of sleeping sickness in hunaans in the United States, with about nine per cent fatalities, Dr. KnowKon averred. Government investigations had perivously isolated one mosquito. Culex tarsaiis, as a convoyer of the dread disease. In the Utah experiments. Drs. Madsen and KnowKon showed that the mosquitoes, mos-quitoes, Aedes dorsalis and Aedes nigromaculus, are also able to transmit the brain fever of horses hor-ses from diseased to healthy guinea Pigs. " |
