Maw, is a candidate for the Governorship of Utah be- cause he believEs that his politi-cal politi-cal convictons embody the hopes of all those who decry special -privilege and consider it a chief duty of government to safe-guard and promote the well-being of the general public. That his life has thus far been devoted to the general good is common knowledge; knowl-edge; that he is well qualified to fill the high office to which he aspires, no one can deny. His cause is the cause of the whole - people; his goal that of insuring to all the "free and equal rights" guaranteed by the constitution. For ten years 192S' to 19 38 Mr. Maw was a member of the Utah State Senate; for four years 1935 to 1938 he was president of that body. In 1937 he sponsored the Old Age Assistance law in . the legislature. By the Governor's appointment he was made chairman chair-man of a committee named to . draft the Direct -Primary law, which law he sponsored through the legislature. Mr. Maw has been student of Utah taxation for years. He has proved that all of the reforms he : is advocating can be accomplished ! without increasing the tax load now borne by business and the i people. The $27,000,000 per yearj now being collected by the State of Utah from its citizens is suf-licient suf-licient to sustain this state in all of its various functions as well as provide sufficient revenues to carry out the program announced fcy Mr. Maw. His program provides, provid-es, among other things, for a re- Auction of taxation on homes and farms. It also calls for getting the state out of debt and keeping 3t out of debt. An economic system under -which a large number of our citi-: citi-: zens are unable to find employment, employ-ment, and as a consequence are forced upon" the relief roles, is a serious cosideration by our state. Herbert B. Maw pledges a state sponsored program to cooperate with Federal and other agencies in an intellgent and aggressive campaign to find and create jobs for our employable citizens. |
