Instead of fancy sets, Dick finds an interesting glade of flowers or a rushing stream and then directs the action in front of it. The actors are all local people, untrained un-trained but who are performing a role on location in the Uinta Mountains they know so well, near their homes and businesses. Dick feels it is his job to get them to act naturally and then to direct the action "around" them. Dick not only produces and directs mm? He proves it by showing the scars that are the result of overacting by various "trained" wild animals. He shows us the teeth marks left by his own bear who is now snoozing comfortably in his cage just behind the house. This is the same grizzly that appeared in the mpvie, 'Jeremiah Johnson'; the one that came right into the sly old mountain moun-tain man's cabin, much to the surprise sur-prise of Jeremiah. Dick developed his cinematic skills during the twenty years he spent making animal films. He started with Disney studios in 1957, where he handled han-dled animals in a variety of films. He then spent six years with the "Wild Kingdom" TV series, producing over 20 shows himself and participating in many more. He was involved in several TV specials about animals, constantly learning more about nature films and about movie produc 23 KAC Tony Smith Exhibit Winters Council 9:00 a.m., Middle School Library Elks 8:00 p.m., Elks Hall Chamber of Commerce Meeting 8:00 a.m., KAC 24 KAC Tony Smith Exhibit Marsac "Fun With Rene Day," Resort High School Wrestling State Tourney, Tour-ney, BYU, All Day 25 KAC Tony Smith Exhibit Equitable Family Race 11:30 a.m.. He pointed out that he was one of the original founders of the locally based production group that was to become Sunn Productions. Through that organization he produced, or was involved in-volved in, many of the best known family entertainment films of the past several years. They included, Cougar Country, Brother of the Wind, Sasquatch, Toklat and Jeremiah Johnson. Dick said, however, that one of his recent films caused him the most trouble and it is still causing much controversy. This is the film that was eventually titled "Grizzly Adams." According to Dick, when he began working on the film several years ago, the Sunn Company was going through many organizational changes. During that time he said he first agreed to sell, and then later decided to buy back the rights to the footage already 26 NASTAR 11:30 a.m., Resort KAC Tony Smith 27 Women's A thenaeum 8:00 p.m., Mem. In the meantime, Dick plans to begin several new films this summer. Yes, he says, they will be shot in the Oakley area and yes, they will use local people in the films. And, of course, cour-se, Samson the buffalo will appear on film again. Dick is thinking about making a movie about a mountain woman, instead in-stead of the usual mountain man. There really were a few genuine mountain women hunters and trappers trap-pers in the old days of the west. So, if you are a woman, live nearby, and would be willing to ride an enormous enor-mous 2,000 pound buffalo, this may be your chance to make it big in the movies.
