The abortive commando raid took place at Larnaca airport in Cyprus on Sunday. Cypriot Naitonal Guardsmen opened fire on Egyptian commandos attempting to seize two terrorists who killed a prominent Egyptian editor on Saturday and who were holding hostages aboard a Cyprus Airways DC-8. Cypriot officials said the terrorists had been about to surrender when the commandos attacked. at-tacked. The two terrorists handed their arms over ov-er to the four-man airplane crew while the Egyptians Egyp-tians battled Cypriot soldiers trying to keep them from storming the plane. Fifteen Egyptians were killed in the fire fight. Cyprus refused to turn the two terrorists over to Egypt and demanded the recall of Cairo's military attache. Eidoven, The Netherlands A Dutch motorist suffered shock but no apparent physical injury Monday when his automobile was hit by two trains. The first train struck his car at a rail crossing and knocked it onto a parallel set of tracks and into the path of a second train travelling in the opposite direction. Police said the car was demolished except for the driver's section. Moscow The Soviet Union Sunday officially denied that it once asked the United States to join it in a nuclear attack on China.' H.R.Haldeman in his book The Ends of Power, claimed former President Nixon and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger had rejected a Soviet offer in 1969 to join in a nucler attack on China.Moscow's communist rival. Kissinger and former Secretary of State William Rogers have denied the claims by Haldeman. Salisbury, Rhodesia Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith and three black political leaders signed an eight-point agreement Wednesday for black majority rule for Rhodesia. Jerusalem Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin last week bitterly protested a decision by President Carter to sell warplanes to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Begin said the first U.S. sale of combat jets to Egypt would lend support to ultimatums issued by President Anwar Sadat during peace talks and would encourage threats i of war by the Egyptian press. Carter administration officials acknowledged Israel's displeasure over the aircraft air-craft sales but said the move would not undermine under-mine the basic U.S. commitment to Israel. Moscow Women's liberation is adding to a Soviet divorce rate that is three times higher-than higher-than it was in the 1960s. Sociologist Viktor Perevedentze said the divorce rate in the Soviet Union is now 33.2 per cent and rising. , The sociologist blamed women's liberation for the increase in marriage problems. Tallahassee, Fla., police said they have questioned the suspect in connection with the Jan. 11 clubbing deaths of two coeds at a Florida State University sorority house. Bundy was placed on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List Jan. 10 and is wanted by that agency for questioning in the deaths of 36 women beginning in Colorado in 1969. He has been convicted of the 1974 kidnapping kidnap-ping of a Carol DaRonch from a Salt Lake area shopping center and has twice escaped from Colorado jails, the last time on December 31. . Washington The United Mine Workers bargaining council Monday approved an agreement with a small coal company which may provide a breakthrough in the record-breaking record-breaking coal strike. The council has twice rejected national contracts con-tracts but agreed to terms with Pittsburg and Midway Coal Company, The union is expected to attempt to have similar terms applied to the larger coal companies in the Appalachia fields. Quincy, Mass. Police took a 71-year-old widow into custody Monday after she held them at bay with a shotgun for 12 days. The recluse had threatened to kill herself and anyone who approached her house. . According to neighbor William Riordan, the siege began when Mary Regina Connor threatened his son and some other boys with the shotgun in a dispute over fees for shoveling snow. An aide to Sen. Robert Dole, who did not wish to be identified, said Torrijos told Sens. Dole and Paul Laxalt on Dec. 30 that he would give his brother, Moises, to U.S. authorities or arrest Moises himself if evidence supporting charges of drug trafficking is produced.
