Iran's acting foreign minister, Sadegh Ghot-bzadeh, Ghot-bzadeh, said the hostages would be tried as "spies." The report of threats to shoot the captives cap-tives came from a White House official. On Monday, the Iranian people voted overwhelmingly over-whelmingly to make Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini their political leader for life. Returns from a two-day referendum showed Iranians voting 60-1 in favor of a new constitution which Knomeini's critics say makes him a theocratic dictator. Reporters said bearded, turbaned Moslem priests sat in front of ballot boxes at several polling places instructing people to "vote yes only" in the non-secret balloting. United Nations The United Nations Security Council, by unanimous vote, urged Iran Tuesday to release immediately the 50 American hostages held in the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. The 15 council members passed a resolution that also appeals to Iran and the United States "to exercise the utmost restraint" in the crisis. Iran, which refused to send an ambassador to the emergency council sessions, announced last week it would ignore any council action on the hostage issue. Toa Baja, Puerto Rico Two American sailors were killed and 10 others were wounded Monday when terrorist gunmen ambushed a U.S. Navy bus on a lonely country road. Tripoli, Libya The U.S. Embassy in Tripoli was ransacked Sunday by some 2,000 Ligyans chanting support for Iran. None of the embassy staff was injured, but the Libyan government accused the Americans of having seriously injured several of the attackers by firing military-type "toxic gases" at them. State Department officials in Washington said an automatic teargas security system was activated ac-tivated when the embassy was stormed. Only one Libyan policeman was in front of the. embassy when the demonstrators marched up, and Libyan authorities ignored appeals for help from the staff, State Department officials said. Mexico City Mexico said last Thursday it will not renew a visa that allowed the deposed Shah or Iran to live in that country, his home in exile before he traveled to New York for cancer treatment. Cincinnati A stampede of rock fans rushing to gain good seats for a concert by The Who resulted in the deaths of 11 people Monday night. The 11 victims, aged 15 to 22, were trampled to death as 8,000 fans stormed the Riverfront Coliseum after hearing the rock group warming up. The surging fans trampled and suffocated others in the rush for seats, sold on a first-come, first-served basis. City officials said Tuesday promoters of the concert delayed up to one hour in opening doors despite police warnings of a "potential danger" posed by the thousands of waiting fans. San Antonio, Texas The Shah of Iran was reported secluded in comfortable, heavily guarded guar-ded VIP quarters at Lackland Air Force Base on Monday after being moved from a base hospital. Recovering from cancer treatment and gallbladder surgery, the shah was flown from New York to a private ward in the Wilford Hall Air Force Hospital on Sunday for an indefinite period of convalescence. New York A 29-year-old woman was listed in satisfactory condition Monday after leaping from the 86th floor observation deck of the Empire Em-pire State Building Sunday night. Elveda Adams of the Bronx jumped from atop the building but gusting winds glew her back toward the structure and she landed on a 2 12 foot ledge only one floor below the deck. There was a similar suicide attempt last year by a tourist from Hawaii, who also was pushed back to the 85th floor ledge by strong winds tf-r,i :'i I Washington A special prosecutor was appointed appoin-ted last Thursday to investigate charges that President Carter's chief of staff, Hamilton Jordan, Jor-dan, sniffed cocaine last year at the Studio 54 discotheque in Manhattan. Jordan, as he has in the past, denied any allegations of cocaine use. He said he will remain on his job and "cooperate fully in any investigation." in-vestigation." Lenoir City, Tennessee Tennessee Valley Authority workers last Thursday cut steel cables allowing the six gates on the Tellico Dam to fall into place, causing the blue waters of the Little Tennessee River to creep over rich farm valley land. The project, first started in 1965, has been stalled several times and was the center of intense in-tense controversy. Environmentalists said it was the work of wasteful politicians and would inundate inun-date a beautiful valley. Other opponents, in 11 lawsuits, called it economically unsound Proponents said it would provide a boost to ar. economically depressed region of east Tennessee. Ten-nessee. Work on the dam came to a halt in 1977 because a tiny fish, the snail darter, was considered endangered. . IW.H. .W. J'A'. .'V, A'J.' Do you have better I things to do with your time?
