What are your observations on the resent drug bust? if : DouflHdlngMMrti Carol Williams I watched part of the raid, and I feel that the people that got caught deserve what they get because drugs are really getting to be a big, major problem.1 ';. Elmer Groves I think they should save their money and use it to get the big fellows. A lot of it was a waste of money. They are spending a dollar to get ten cents worth: POST m 1 t II MkeDtlmone DougHollingsworth The drug bust was the greatest. Everybody who was busted should have their name printed in the newspaper. Jim McHugh I think it was atrocious that the state police came into a mellow mountain town and overrun our society for something that is legal in several other states. Who are they to pass moral judgement on our personal beliefs? 1 Rusty Prudence I think it is the greatest thing since pay toilets. Kirk Aezer Many of the cases seem to be clear cut entrapment. We don't need that element in this tonr. Frankly, I'm somewhat vary of meeting new folks who want to get high. Mike Delmotte Frankly, I feel lucky not to be involved. The whole thing was a joke. It just went to show how stupid the whole thing was by the amount of total stash they got from people. I feel sorry for the new folks in town because now nobody will want to party with them. Debbie Foss-Nielson I think its fairly sad that this occured in Park City at any time, but, particularly absurd under the present circumstances circum-stances and hardship that is, being experienced here." also think, it - i oitunate m mat it adversely affects the relaShip between state and . inmVidiiar by creating Editor. . . . . ...... . Reply Dear Editor; I feel very sony- for you Dorthy Payne, living here in "sin city" full of tragedy. If you can't be proud of the fact the law enforcement agencies are trying to make this a better place for you and I and our children, then I think you miss the point of what makes a town the kind of place you want to live in and that more people will want to move to and still others will want to visit. Just because for a long time , you didn't see "policemen I trooping along the hillside looking for famous hemp .' plants" to quote you, doesn't imean the problem wasn't there and growing all along. The stabbing was unfortunate unfortu-nate but the man claimed self defense and was released on bail which is a part of our ; system, like it or not. As far as the burglaries are concerned, Park City citizens can help by reporting suspicious suspic-ious activities instead of just: complaining about them . after the damage is done. If I you could check national statistics on burglaries you'd . find that most burglaries are directly related to drug ; traffic. It is also a fact that Jenny's death and the stabbing .were directly related relat-ed to the drug ale hoi influence. You asked the question "Can nothing be done to prevent these events?" I would suggest Dorthy, that you reall the full accounts of what is being done! in the Newspaper and tlfe Park; Record; where one article stated "all we got were the little mules" but I say its a It's the little guys that sell in very small amounts to the school kids, that help keep the bug guys in business. The police are directing, their energies to quote you again, in trying to make this a safer community for you and I to live in and if you can't appreciate it then I suggest you stay home with mom and dad. ; My husband, Chief Wilkinson, Wilkin-son, has been in law enforcement 15 years and most of the time it has been rewarding, but now and again thankless people like yourself can't be grateful for what is being done. I have children living here and yes I'm concerned. The chief is also very concerned about the youth of our town and hopes to get programs started in the schools on the danger of drugs and alcohol etc. It's a little ridiculous to think you can place a 20-40 year old undercover agent in the schools to mingle with the kids to find out their source. The kids themselves won't even be narcs because of the peer pressure brought to bear if they are found out. . One avenue is to get the kids involved in an active program against drugs md alcohol and make them strong against it as i group. The other way is to bust every known user, who often turns out to be aseller too, and hopefully cui down the source to the school kids. Don't knock what's being done till you know the future plans to help curtail the drug alcohol traffic among old and young aUJce. It doesn't take any guts to be a back seat driver and criticize, but it does take.a lot of guts to risk your life day after day and put in the kind of hours our officers do and take the kind of guff they take. If you can't be proud to send the paper home to your parents with all the tragedies and the attempts tocutdown on drugs or anything else the police dept. tries to curtail, then I'd suggest you stop their subscription. I should think your parents would rest easier nights knowing something was being done to . protect their daughter. ine two deaths were tragic but don't tell me there is a town that is exempt from tragedy of some sort-so I'd suggest Dorthy, you settle down and count your blessings bless-ings living in this beautiful mountain community and stop dwelling on all the bad things going on and support your local authorities and help, rather than hinder by placing doubt in the minds of the good people, of this community, , . Yes there are problems here as there is in any community and we'd be naive to think there wasn't but we'll keep .fighting to make it a better and safer community for us all to live in. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and you only see what you look for. I see beauty, .friendliness, community activity, love and prosperity in spite of the small set-backs of deaths and no snow. I see problems but I . also see 7 dedicated police' officers working their hearts out to ' combat these problems. I love this town and look for greater things to . ihappen, '. v", f A Happier New Year to you Dorthy and a very happy and prosperous New Year to our community. . ' Rhea Wilkinson Thanks to Crow Dear Editor; . . We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to the Park City Ambulance Crew for their expert and speedy medical care that saved our daughter Kelly. Love, prayers and thoughts from Iriends fa' Park City nere deeply appreciated at a very strenuous time.
