"Right, Rambler, everyone on the hill knows her. She's going to meet me at the top of the lift. 10-4, good buddy." ' I didn't care, at least not in my dreams. Even if the Kneissl Kitten was going to meet 20 good buddies up there, I had to check out the action. I'd had a fight with Peggi in my dream. She has starter her "next year, we're vacationing in the islands" dialog again, so I had a right to meet the Kitten. ..in my dreams, anyway. My little fantasy was just about over and I slipped off the ramp to the snow below and stood there, adjusting my ears and waiting. Just then, this flash of orange in a one-piece ski suit came flopping off the chair and' fill right into my arms. Only Peggi flops like that, I thought. She gave me a big kiss and was laughing hysterically. " "Keep your SKI TIPS up, good buddy," she said. She skied off down the hill. On her back she had a sign.. ."Kneissl Kitten." I woke up fast, good buddies. Loosing only one wrestler from a team that last year finished second in the region and ninth in the state, everybody knew the Park High Grapplers are tough on paper. After sweeping the four team East Carbon Invitational Tournament over the weekend, everybody now knows they Miners are tough on the matt. Racking up nine pins with five first place and five second place finishes on their way to collecting the 145team points, Park High has clearly established themselves as a wrestling force to be reckoned reckon-ed with. Defending region champ ions North Summit is again the team Park City will have to beat if they . hope to capture a title. Although strong in the middle weights where the Miners are their best, Coach Carlson predicts, Memorial Bldg. He added, "Maybe people in the city would be more concerned about the building than the county which is far removed from it." V After re-emphasizing the wide and varied uses of the Memorial Building and commenting on its potential for future years, Henderson asserted, "Structurally, it's probably the most solid building in town." o o o o PLEASE JOIN US Pre Christmas Open House Sat., Dec. 4th 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Refreshments served BOOKS GREETING CARDS CHRISTMAS CARDS POSTERS & GIFTS BOOS STORE C GIFT BOUTIQUE 686 llain Street 649-8062 "If I can get my lineup like it can be, we're going to take them this year." Think Snouol Sun Valley's Cooper Named To 'B' Team Christin Cooper, 17, of Sun Valley, Idaho, has been named to the U.S. Alpine B Team by Alpine Director Hank Tauber as the racers prepared to leave for European World Cup races. Cooper, winner of the 1976 Canadian-American Series slalom title and youngest member of this season's U.S. World Cup Team, consistently consistent-ly placed among the top women racers during the Team's summer training program. Continued outstanding out-standing performances in fall training resulted in her upgrading from the C to the B team, Tauber added. barr6 Tuning skis is fairly simple. You will need some equipment, all of it available at a hardware store or ski shop. Needed are a 10 inch Mill Bastard file, a file card to clean and extend the life of your file, a knife sharpening stone, and some emery paper (No. 320). You will also need a means of securing your skis to -Cliff Martinez (J); 167 lbs - keep them from moving. A vice is ideal; but if Mike Reed (S); 183 lbs vrtit Ann't koua nna vnn nan nrnn thorn oaoinct a tiro 11 with tips up. Now, lightly draw lines every two or three inches across the base with a crayon or grease pencil. This should help you see your filing progress. A file will only cut in one direction, so it must be held correctly. If you are pushing the file, the tang : (the long pointed thing at the end of the file) should be on your right. If you are pulling the file, the tang should be on you left. Most files cut most efficiently when the tang is at a 45 degree angle to the base of the ski. If you happen to have bought a Dicky Pete . file, then the above will work for the file except that its tang should be 90 degrees to the base of the ski. File from the tip to the tail with overlapping strokes. Make sure you place your thumb over the file and apply pressure over the edges of the ski. If you do this you will end up with a convex ski instead of a flat one. When the lines across the base just disappear the ski should be flat. The next step is edge filing filing the side surfaces of the edge. Edge filing will remove minor rock damage and assures a square edge. Again, start filing from the tip of the ski to the tail, making sure the file remains square with the edge of the ski. After you have finished edge filing, take a knife sharpening stone and smooth the bottom and side surfaces of the edge? This wilb remove any burrs-ana "will make for V'smootnrcan''edge. Finally, the tip and tail have to be dulled with emery paper to prevent the ski from hooking. There are no hard and fast rules as to how much of the ski has to be dulled; its a matter of preferance, for each ski and skier requires a different amount. A good starting point is to dull the tip from the shovel to the beginning of the running surface, and at the tail end about 2 and a half inches. ' Last but not least, pray for a lot of snow.
