The Plan guides all natural resource management activities in the Uinta National Forest. The first Plan was implemented in 1984. Forest Service officials are required by law to revise plans every years. The process to initiate the revision of the Plan began in September 1999. Information gathered from the public, local governments, federal and state agencies, and American Indian Tribes was used to identify management direction that either needed to be 2003. Implementation of the Revised Plan will begin in June 2003. Intermountain Regional Forester Jack Troyer stated, I am pleased to announce the release of the revised forest plan for the Uinta National Forest. This plan provides a framework for decisions that the forest supervisor and district rangers will make for the Uinta National Forest in the years to site-specifi- 10-1- 5 c come. This revision strives to find the balance between todays competing needs while ensuring healthy watersheds for future generations. The Revised Plan addresses seven issues that were identified through the planning process. 1) Recre- changed or established. Eight alternatives were developed, and analyzed in detail, based on this information. The Record of Decision, documenting the selection of the Alternative upon which the Revised Plan is based, was signed by Intermountain Regional Forester, Jack Troyer on April 7, ation and Recreation Access; 2) Roadless and Wilderness; 3) Air, Watershed and Water Quality; 4) Viability and Biodiversity; 5) Social and Economic; 6) Monitoring and Evaluation; 7) Lands: Property Boundary Management. Uinta National Forest Supervisor, Pete Karp remarked, I doubt that the Revised Plan will be the perfect plan for anyone. Such is our nature and the deeply complex human, natural, and physical resources of our national forests. However, I strongly believe that the Revised Plan has something for everyone. The Revised Plan will guide Uinta National Forest land managers in their natural resource management decisions over the next 10- - 15 years. The Plan provides for adaptive management and monitoring using the best scientific information available. Copies of the Revised Plan, Final Environment Impact Statement, and Record of Decision may be obtained at the Uinta National Forest Supervisors office in Provo, or at the Forest website, www.fs.fed.usr4uinta forestplantoc.htm.
