Show The Utah Enterprise Review , March 2 , 1977 Page 17b Rendering Plants License Revoked When does a city have the right to revoke a business license? Intermountain Protein Products, an animal rendering operation, is asking that question of South Jordan city, since they feel they are a subjective scapegoat to an urban sprawl problem. South Jordan issued an order last November demanding the elimination of all bad smells and foul odors from the plant so all air surrounding its general area is wholesome and con-sista- nt with acceptable standards of living. The order called for revocation of the plants business license if the demand was not met by Feb. 1, 1977. South Jordan did, in fact, revoke the license, but a temporary court injunction has kept the rendering plant in operation. The firm gained its business license in January, 1973, on the condition that it conform with state require- ments of safe and clean air, water, and sewage waste. Intermountain Protein Products says they have complied with all regulations. Company attorney, Bruce Roe, also maintains the business license is not a regulatory license and the city does not have the jurisdiction to revoke it unless the business tax is delinquent. The city knew what we were when we requested a change in zoning to move here, Roe stated. Its not that anything has changed, its that the city is growing and we are in the way, he added. City attorney Nick Colessides, however, has charged Intermountain Protein Products with violations of the license conditions, therefore, believes the city has the right to revoke the license. He said the city has received complaints about stagnant air. SUBARU MAKES SENSE Gas, maintenance and repairs keep going up.
