For the option buyer, as opposed to the option writer or seller, it has been a very risky venture. If, as a buyer, you were right, your rewards were often spectacular. If you were wrong, you could lose all or part of your investment. Since the prospect for success looms ever present for the lucky few, here are some rules to help put the odds in your favor. 1 .. Use only money you can lose. Since you stand a good change of losing, dont use money you can't afford to lose. 2. Start small. Develop and test your trading ability by starting with small positions and slowly increase the size of your trading as you develop skill. 3. Dont overcommit. As a general rule no one position should exceed one third of your account. If all of your money is in one position, you increase the chances of getting wiped out. Your buying and selling decisions 4. Dont over-hopshould be made on a sound basis. As soon as things don't go exactly according to plan, reassess your position without hoping you'll be right.
