Show The National Enterprise, April 13, 1977 Page eight ......... Work will begin on big tank April 18 has been tenatively set as the day construction will begin on Salt Lakes largest water tank reservoir. The 12 million gallon Military Reservoir will hold more than twice as much water as the citys six exsiting tanks, the largest of which holds only one million gallons. Construction of the tank will be completed through five phases ranging from site preparation to landscaping the tank, and surrounding area after the tank is completed. Zwick Construction Co., Salt Lake City, will be the general contractor for the tank itself and will get $800,000 of the total $1.7 million federal allotment for the entire job. Funding will come from the Economic Development Administration, but additional spending over the $1.7 federal allotment will be the burden of Sal! Lake City. Back-U- p for Baskin Scheduled for completion by next February, the new reservoir tank will be built near Fort Douglas on the citys east bench and will draw its water from Cottonwood and Parleys Canyons runoff. According to the city wrater department, the reservoir will act as a back up or balance system for Baskin Reservoir, on the citys Bonneville Golf Course. The is Baskin normally drained and filled daily during periods of peak wrater use when 200,000 city residents consume 50 million gallons of water per day. The new will not actually give reservoir residents more water to use, according to city engineer Ray Brady, but it will boost water pressure in the city and allow the city to refill the Baskin on a weekly, rather than a daily basis. east-centr- Ask w al We wanted results from our advertising and that meant reaching only prime prospects with the dollars we spent. And we didnt want our ad lost in a daily. The Enterprise was the answer. What really sold me, though, was the results we got. Our advertising contract with The Enterprise is one of the best things weve done. The inquiries weve gotten greatly exceeded our The city has listed the Military Reservoir high on its water plans since the 1960's, the water department said, but funding was only recently made available by the EDA. Brady said the reservoir would not alleviate the citys water shortage this year and it was not the EDAs intention to build the reservoir as a means of drought relief. EnDesingcd by Genge-Cagineering co., (known locally as Call Engineering), the huge tank will consume some 7,200 tons of concrete. The concrete will be tightened for stress after concrete sections are formed and poured. The conunique crete tank will be completely underground and will accommodate a basketball court, five tennis courts and one volleyball court on its surface. .
