Show The Utah Enterprise Review, March 2, 1977 Page 5b Delivery Service Contemplated by Yellow Cab Company Yellow Cab Co. wants to incorporate a package delivery service into its taxi business. According to Charles Boynton, president, the company has delivered packages for large companies for eons," but has charged the same rate for delivering packages as it did for transporting passengers. About the proposed service, Boynton explained, We want to charge about $1.75 per package for delivery within one and a half hours anywhere in Salt Lake City." He said the average cab driver tours the entire city area within that time period anyway, and could transport both passengers and packages without any conflict. "We see this as a way of increasing driver's income without raising meter rates," Boynton continued. He said the firm's mar- ket study indicated most small companies, law firms and other potential customers presently incorporate delivery people into their staffs. Salt Lake City has gotten into the habit of having delivery systems," Boynton said, but that is expensive. We in-hou- se dont see this new service as a revolution, but rather as an evolution," he added. He said the company would continue delivering packages quickly for the higher standard meter rate. But, if permission is granted by the city commission, the new "delayed" service would be added. It w'ould be used only for transporting small items that would fit in an envelope 11" by 14" by 1". The city commission has set March 17 for a public to consider Boynton's proposal. Boynton said if the commission approves, the service could begin by this summer.
