In second singles, Stephen Larsen a senior from North Sanpete, won easily Stephen hit the angles and attacked the net at the right times to handily defeat Joe Christensen. In third singles, Chad De Will a sophomore from North Sanpete, also won easily, beating Chase Nelson Coach Jeff Ericksen "Our singles played really well today. Stephen really had a great match and is gaining the confidence necessary to v.be successful. Chad De Mill is so much fun to watch. He isn't scared of anybody!" Doubles action saw Jordan Seely and Devin Perry hang tough to beat Josh Squire and Scott Nay 64. The Gunnison duo won the first set then Devin and Jordan stepped it up a notch to win the next two sets in a row. Jordan Seely served well and Devin finished off the points at the net! In second doubles, Jordan Blackham and Spencer Foulson, both sophomores from Moroni, bowed to Shane Peterson and Alex Jenson in three sets. Gunnison jumped ahead with a first set win then Jordan and Spencer bounced back to win the second set at also. In the third set for the match Shane and Alex dominated "We have a really young team. We don't have any seniors on the varsity team so we hope to do well next year against North Sanpete," Gunnison Coach Kim Bailey said. Winner for the Hawks was Stephen Larsen in second singles Stephen put on a dazzling performance to mesmerize his opponent. Assistant Coach Chris Christensen praised Stephen saying, "This weekend was a great weekend for Stephen. He really came into his own and played with reckless abandon. Though it was a beautiful day, the game on Wednesday between the Hawks and the Templars could Spring and fall golf scrambles scheduled i by Ray LaFollette EPHRAIM Steve Johnson, Sanpete District Boy Scouts of America (BSA), announced the time and dates of this year's golf scramble's for alt varsity and i scouts. There will be two events, one this spring and one next fall. Both events will be held at the Palisade Golf Course south of Sterling. The Spring Golf Scramble vi'ill be held April 9, at 9:30 a.m. Eighty-thre- e boys competed in the event last fall and it is hoped l here will be 100 participants this spring! Also, mark your calendars for the Fall Golf Scramble which will take place Oct. 16, at 9:30 a.m. This is before the deer hunt and hopefully, before snow! Last year's varsity teams and venture crews competed for two large gold traveling trophies. The trophies will be up for grabs again this spring. Last fall the Champion Ven- ture Crew trophy went to the Manti Fourth LDS Ward Crew 538 and the Champion Varsity Team trophy went to the Gunnison Second Ward Team 564. Make plans now to get out and practice so your unit can win it this time. The teams combined for 15 errors, a microscopic strike zone led to 22 walks and the game was halted for 15 minutes when North Sanpete senior Josh Jensen was badly injured on a play at the plate. North Sanpete took the lead with 13 runs in the top of the second on the strength of nine hits, but they were aided by four walks and a pair of Templar errors. Manti battled back with sev- en runs in the bottom of the second highlighted by a Devin Frischknecht home run and three walks. With seven runs across and Manti still threatening with a runner on first and no outs, Hawk hurler Trevor Johnson turned on the gas to record three straight strike outs and end the Templar on- slaught. The scoring didn't end, however, as North Sanpete pushed across four more runs in the third, three in the fourth and five in the fifth. Manti stayed in the game by scoring six runs in the fourth and three in the fourth. The Hawks rapped out a total of 18 hits and were the recipients of 14 walks. Johnson was at the plate including a pair of doubles and a triple. Morgan Sorensen, Kyle Poulson and Kody Anderson each had three hits for North Sanpete. Frischknecht had a double to go with his home run, and finished with four RBIs. Manti stroked 14 hits as Moore r6 also went Spencer Harmon smacked a pair of doubles, and Kurt Richards and Austin Soper also doubled for Manti. The Templars received eight bases on balls. In the fifth inning, the game went from ugly to scary when North Sanpete's Josh Jensen was injured while scoring from third on a wild pitch. Jensen was unintentionally bit in the nose and mouth by the catcher's throw as he crossed the plate. He lay on the ground lor ten minutes before being helped from the field with a broken nose and tooth and a mild concussion. On Tuesday North Sanpete traveled to Roosevelt where they were downed by the Union Union pitcher Cougars, Rhett Fieldsted scattered five hits and struck out ten to lalo-thwin. Josh Jensen gave up hits and took the loss for North Sanpete. Tyson l odd had four RBIs and a home run to lead Union at the plate. The only I lawk run' came in the fourth inning when Kyle Christiansen doubled and scored on a single by Morgan Sorensen. North Sanpete finally got to play a game at home this week when they hosted the Canyon View Falcons on Monday. They on Tuesthen traveled to day to open play in Region 8. Access is tough. Best fishing occurs in 20-3- 0 feet of water. Fishing on Huntington Creek has been best below the forks with a chamois caddis tipped with a wax worm. Another option is a red and orange San Juan worm. Brown trout are in inch size class. the eight-to-1- 4 The best tackle to use on Huntington Reservoir, above Cleveland Reservoir is still a Swedish Pimple or white Gitzit tipped with a meal worm. Fishing is best in 2 feet of water from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tiger trout have weighed as much as three pounds and have been as long as 20 inches.
