The 76-4- 8 defeat of Millard enabled the Templars to maintain their unbeaten record in Region 12 and their surprising 78-5- 4 whipping of Emery, a 3A team, undoubtedly solidified Manti s position in the standings as the states number two 2A team behind Beaver. Emerys Spartans brought a 1 record to the Manti gym and had been picked as a favorite for the state championship. After a 2 score in the opening minute, the Templars took the lead and maintained it to the end. At the end of the quarter, they were ahead with Rich Mike Barton and Anderson, Kevin Callister doing the scoring. In the second quarter, with five Templars getting into the scoring column, Manti had moved ahead 38-2- 8 to a half-tim- e count. The third quarter saw more of the same. The Templars swarm top-rank- ed 6-- 2-- 15-1- 2, ing the Eagles to eight points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth while the offense racked up the points. Mike Barton dominated the offense board and scored 24 points. Brian Keisel, who hit five triples, had 17. Erin Christensen led rebounding with five followed by Marci Cheney and Maggon Palmer with three each. Emily Jacobson and Aagard each had four steals, while Maggon and Anna Palmer each had three.
