At his preliminary hearing in the Sixth District Court, Jose Luis Rodiquez, age 20, entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of criminal homicide in the shooting death of Lucio Gonzales Soto and asked for a trial by jury. The trial was set to begin on June 12. But in a plea bargain arranged by county attorney Ross Blackham and public defender Paul Frischknecht, Rodiquez I agreed to change his plea to guilty to a charge of manslaughe ter, a felony. Last week Judge Kay Mclff sentenced Rodiquez to 1 to 15 years at the state prison on the manslaughter charge and added another 1 to five years, consecutively, for the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime. The two young men were buddies, according to eyewitnesses of the shooting. They lived at the same trailer court and worked together in the turkey industry. Witnesses said they didnt know the reason for the altercation. Alcohol may have been involved. second-degre- estimated at $742,459. Charges for services totals $27,129 with $9,000 coming from celebrations, $5,300 from rodeo proceeds, $4,500 from building rentals and $4,000 from grave preparation fees. General fund expenditures Projected $742,459 general fund expenditures are broken down in as follows: City council personnel services total $3,638; with $262 in payroll benefits and $4,000 in material and supplies. Judicial expenditures total $9,989 in personal services, $2,150 in payroll benefits; $1,000 material and supplies; and $10,000 in contributions to other government fines. Mayoral expenditures include, personal services $1,102; payroll benefits, $262; and material and supplies, $1,500. There are no administrator expenditures budgeted. Mclff June 14 in Sixth Judicial District Court. third-degr- ee Her preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 28 at 11 a.m. According to an Information filed by County Attorney Ross Blackham, on or about June 7 Mindie M. Johnson, 22, allegedly had unauthorized control of a 78 Ford Mustang belonging to Bryan Snow, of Mt Pleasant and failed to return the vehicle. Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Kay Larsen stated during a telephone interview last week that Johnson was arrested while attempting to change the title at the State Capitol. Apparently Snow gave her permission to use the vehicle, but when the car was not returned as promised Snow contacted the Mt. Pleasant police. According to the Information, the defendant had 24 hours to return the vehicle after the exercise of unauthorized control. Ms Johnson was released into the custody of family members. In another matter, a rash of vehicle burglaries have taken place in the last week. Approximately 20 vehicles have been opened and searched for valuables. In most cases, persons seem to be looking for loose change from ashtrays and glove compartments. Kay Larsen, Mt.
